Job Description:

This Mid-Level Field Geologist position will support projects for federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients. The successful candidate will provide geologic support on environmental characterization and remediation projects at sites in Mid-Atlantic and possibly other states. The successful candidate will support projects under CERCLA, RCRA, and other environmental regulatory programs. This position includes responsibilities for drilling wells and advancing boreholes using various techniques including, but not limited to, air rotary, mud rotary, sonic, hollow-stem auger, and direct push methods. Projects may also involve multi-media environmental sampling, aquifer testing, and borehole geophysical logging. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with and under the supervision of the project manager. This position requires the employee to be a U.S. citizen.

Your Role:

This position will have both field and non-field related responsibilities. Position requires a minimum of 50% field work and/or travel, including potential days of overnight travel. Travel throughout the eastern U.S. may be required.
• The candidate will be responsible for a variety of project-related tasks, including geologic investigations, multi-media sampling, and interpretation of data.
• Typical tasks will include independent field work planning, preparation, and management; drilling and monitoring well installation oversight; logging soil boreholes; groundwater remedial system implementation and knowledge of operations and maintenance (O&M); and report preparation including text, tables, and figures.
• Plan and implement sampling programs with appropriate direct measurement and remote sensing techniques for multi-media environmental evaluations, including surface and subsurface soil, overburden and bedrock groundwater, sediment, surface water, ambient air, indoor air, and soil vapor.
• Coordinate field staff and subcontractors during data gathering and other site operations ensuring data are accurate and suitable for their intended use.
• Assimilate field data into coherent products for deliverables.

Qualifications :

• Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in geology, earth science, geoscience, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental consulting or contracting industry. A master's degree from an accredited university can substitute one year of professional experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working with investigation or remediation of hazardous waste sites.
• Experience with geologic and environmental projects and data interpretation.
• Experience with drilling, installing, and developing monitoring wells in consolidated and unconsolidated rock.
• Experience with multi-media sampling, including low-flow groundwater.

The following are preferences for the position:
• Professional Geologist or Geologist in Training registration
• Knowledge of remedial system installations, system O&M, and aquifer testing.
• Fundamental understanding of GPS location data and land survey techniques.
• 40 hr. OSHA HAZWOPER training with up-to-date Annual Refresher
• Oversight of subcontractors in the field (e.g., drilling companies).
• Document (plans, reports) preparation, including assisting with submittal requirements.
• Must be able to obtain medical clearance for field work at hazardous waste sites including lifting up to 40 lbs. and working for extended periods of time in the field, under hot or cold, humid, and wet conditions.
• Excellent communication skills and field observation and documentation.
• Willingness for overnight travel.
• Driver's license current and valid for a state in the U.S.
