Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Management and Leave of Absence (including Short-Term Disability)
This role is the main contact for both Tekni-Plex employees and third-party vendors pertaining to FMLA and Leaves of Absence
Manage vendors and coordinate communication throughout the Leave process.
Identify consistent methods of implementing LOA policies and processes
Create work flow to ensure appropriate parties are informed of status updates
Communicate with employees regarding their needs for leave and/or modified work schedules. Ensures that employees are aware of their responsibilities and of any documentation and notice required to qualify for and to take leave
Maintain reasonable communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work; relays communication between employees and their managers during leave within reason.
Track each individual on a LOA and apply FMLA hours, as appropriate, to ensure complete and accurate tracking. Maintain records in secure location in order to monitor appropriate use of eligibility and leave length/frequency
Receive payments from on-leave employees and work with Payroll and HR Operations to apply payments to employee profile
Monitor return to work date(s) to ensure benefit and hour tracking is accurate and communicate any changes or updates to Payroll and Operations teams
Liaison with third-party vendors, as needed, to provide requested information, coordinate distribution of COBRA information and terminate benefits as needed and as detailed in the Leave of Absence policy
Advise managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, FMLA/LOAs and short-term disability benefits.
Identify measures and reporting that will help manage and improve the process and track costs.
Interface with Treasury and Risk departments regarding leave activity and cost.
Workers Compensation
Serve as the main contact for sites and insurance company personnel
Initiate Workers Compensation claims using web-based resources
Obtain all relevant information from site for communication to insurance company
Maintain medical/status updates as provided
Regularly monitor WC portal and work with adjuster to establish return to work dates, additional information
Attend semi-annual claim reviews and provide additional information as needed
Advise managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off and workers’ compensation, and short-term disability benefits.
Benefits Administration
Partner with HR Team and external benefits consultant to plan and administer employee benefit programs
Participate in Open Enrollment planning and execution. Coordinate activities across sites.
Assist in the implementation and communication of benefits and wellness programs and initiatives
Participate in benefits evaluation in the M&A process
Support data transfer process between Tekni-Plex and vendors
Resolve benefit-related issues and respond to queries and requests in a timely manner
Collaborate with payroll and ensure that employer contributions and payroll deductions are processed accurately and timely
Skills:
Is able to maintain accurate records using internal systems
Able to build internal and external relationships
Business acumen and knowledge of Tekni-Plex Inc. policies and processes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office software
Knowledge of federal and/or state regulations pertaining to LOAs, FMLA and Worker’s Compensation
Able to recommend alternatives and actions to better develop system
Organization and attention to detail is very important

Experience required:
Experience with LOA, FMLA, Workers Compensation, ADA and other applicable laws
Experience with benefits administration
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with employees and third-parties
Undergraduate degree required
Minimum of two years in Human Resources
Completion of training on FMLA/leave administration a plus
Strong interpersonal skills, focusing on communication and effective collaboration
