Role:

The Insurance Agent sells insurance and assists customers with all insurance needs.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Contacts prospective customers about insurance products and policies.

  • Meets with potential customers to discuss adequacy of existing insurance coverage and related financial resources.

  • Explains various insurance policies and products to potential and existing customers; guides customers in selecting coverage to best meet their needs.

  • Suggests modifications and updates to customer's existing insurance policies.

  • Builds customized insurance policies and packages to meet customer's needs.

  • Processes insurance policy renewals.

  • Assists customers with filing insurance claims.

  • Maintains print and electronic records and files as required.

  • Promotes and represents the agency and makes referrals to other departments.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Performance Management:

  • Provide helpful and informative service and support to all customers and associates.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve customer and internal inquiries in a timely and accurate manner.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education and/or Experience.

  • High School Degree or General Education Degree (GED).

  • Licensed to sell insurance in applicable state.

  • Willingness to test for additional licenses.

Interpersonal Skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to keep accurate records.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs or similar software.

  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and work independently.

  • Excellent time management, communications, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Licensure in Property/Casualty and Life/Health or Crop Insurance.

While performing this job the employee would occasionally be required to carry loads up to and including 24lbs. It is frequently necessary to bend, squat, reach above the shoulder level, crouch, kneel, balance and push/pull equipment. Firm grasping/fine manipulation with the right/left hand is necessary. In an 8-hour day, the employee can expect to sit about 6 hours.

When considering starting wages and salary, please note SFB benefit plans are designed to buy down premiums or out of pocket expenses, causing employee costs to be lower. Depending on level of participation in SFB company benefits, the dollar value of employer paid contributions increase employee total compensation between $3.50 to $10.00 per hour (or more than $7,280 to $20,800 per year) for full time employees. Level of participation will vary based on individual selections for medical, dental, vision and supplemental insurance coverages.  Does not include required employer paid payroll tax benefits, pre-tax savings from medical plans or retirement plans. Additional total compensation amounts listed above will be higher if participating in the 401(k) plan and HSA Medical plan, each includes a potential employer match and pre-tax savings.
