Purpose:

This position is responsible for the architecture, design, and implementation of the UNFI data communications network in accordance with industry and UNFI architecture and security best practices and standards. The Senior Network Engineer stays up to date on the latest technologies, security best practices and deployment strategies both in the cloud and on premise. Core functions include assessing existing deployments for remediation efforts regarding availability, availability, recoverability, security, and cost as well as designing new solutions based on requirements gathered working cross functionally with the key stakeholders. The Senior Network Engineer will develop and maintain reference architectures, standards and procedures, complete high level

and detailed designs and implement greenfield network and security solutions.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Network Engineering

• Leads UNFI network architecture and design efforts to meet the platform and product team requirements while aligning to UNFI Infrastructure and security standards

• Research and recommend new network solutions, execute POC’s and feasibility studies to validate next-gen product concepts and technologies leveraging results to guide business and technology decisions.

• Leads complex network architecture requirements analysis to convert platform, security, and business requirements into technical solutions

• Apply extensive technical expertise in decision making and in the resolution of problems which are highly complex and technical in nature.

• A technical subject matter expert that recommends and advises in the resolution of outages or high priority incidents

• Design, and update UNFI network & security standards and ensure that the network is deployed to these standards by defining requirements and implementing those standards

• Automate the deployment, configuration and maintenance of network configuration and virtual platforms

• Develop infrastructure as code to meet the needs of our platforms and products

• Serve as Network SME for the team and help develop internal network knowledge

• Create and maintain functional / technical design specifications and solutions to satisfy project requirements

• Create simple, repetitive deployment processes that increase both velocity and quality.

Job Requirements: 

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline desired, or relevant Cloud Network Engineering work experience.

• Cisco CCIE Data Center/Security/Enterprise Infrastructure, CCDE, or equivalent certification

 Experience:

• 10+ years’ professional experience working in large scale networking environments (5000 employees or large-scale service provider minimum).

• 10+ years’ experience in as a Network Engineer/Architect in a large complex network environment

• 10 + years with internet routing protocols and concepts: IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, BGP, DNS, MPLS, EIGRP, OSPF, multi VRF environment, DMVPN etc.

• 10+ years with Cisco network operating systems, Cisco IOS and NXOS required

• 3+ years with experience with configuration management software with Terraform preferred but Puppet, Chef, Ansible are a plus.

• Experience in recommending, designing, implementing, and maintaining, Cisco network and Cisco security solutions

• Hands-on experience in designing and deploying large scale network security technologies including Firewalls (ASA and FTD), IPS/IPS, WAN Application Firewalls, NAC and other network security solutions

• Experience with virtual network environments and modern datacenter technologies such as Cisco ACI or Openstack, and network security technologies from providers including Cisco, Zscaler, Palo Alto, CheckPoint, and cloud native AWS solutions.

• Experience with core network services like DNS, DHCP, IPAM, and NTP in a global, distributed environment.

• Experience with designing and implementing knowledge of encryption protocols such as DMVPN, IPSec, TLS, etc.

• Experience with data center fabric network and Software Defined Networking such as VXLAN, Cisco ACI, VMWare NSX, etc.

• Hands-on experience in designing and deploying large scale network security technologies

• Experience in multi-vendor networking technologies

• Proficiency in network architecture and design, network security, and network monitoring

• Deep knowledge of core networking principles and routing protocols such as IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, BGP, DNS, MPLS, DMPVPN, EIGRP, OSPF, multi-tenant VRF design, etc.

• Experience working with highly effective engineering teams through major technology transitions

• Experience working in complex network environments with legacy systems

• Experience with architecting and designing for Security Constraints, Resiliency, FaultTolerance, and Scalability in context of hybrid network architectures

• Experience with traffic and network analysis using tools such as Wireshark, Netflow, Solarwinds and TCPDump

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

• Working configuration/engineering knowledge of Cisco routers, switches, controllers, access points, firewalls, DHCP, DNS, ISE, and F5 load balancers.

• Knowledge and experience in the use of automation/configuration management using Ansible, HashiCorp, GitLab CI, Nexus or equivalent tool sets

• Ability to be flexible, decision oriented, and motivated to support management initiatives

• Ability to demonstrate a consultative approach to strategic decisions with a particular emphasis on design and delivery

• Strong documentation and communication skills

• Strong attention to details

• Problem investigation and diagnostic skills

• Able to write and maintaining clear documentation about system architecture, release, and implementation plans, and develop and maintain internal documentation.

• Able to automate network configuration and develop repeatable enterprise processes
