Overview:

The Frank H. Netter MD, School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University seeks applicants for a full-time faculty position in the Department of Medical Sciences to serve as the Course Director for the Clinical Arts and Sciences (CAS) course. The Clinical Arts and Sciences course aims to teach foundational clinical skills in medical interviewing, physical examination, communication, clinical reasoning, medical documentation, and oral presentations in a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment incorporating experiential learning in both simulated and real clinical settings in the first and second year of the medical education program.
The position will be filled at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. This is a 1.0 FTE position.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum:

Curriculum Design and Implementation

• Develop, coordinate, deliver and assess curricular materials for all components of the CAS Course consistent with national best practices with defined learning objectives.


• Participate in teaching medical students using evidence-based instructional methods


• Collaboratively work with the course manager and assistant course director(s), and MeSH program director to ensure effective course administration and delivery


• Assist in the recruitment, retention, and evaluation of physicians who teach in the Foundations of Clinical care (FCC) and Medical Education Student Home (MeSH) Program.


• Work closely with the Associate Dean for Faculty Development as well as the Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum to design and deliver CAS faculty development sessions.
  Learning Environment Stewardship.


• Ensure that students learn clinical skills in a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment.


• Maintain active communication with preceptors who teach in FCC and MeSH. Schedule regular faculty development sessions to ensure that learning experiences, teaching quality, supervision, learning climate, and assessment are appropriate for students across all sites.


• Ensure all faculty at all sites are familiar with the learning objectives, the Netter Educational Program Objectives, and the assessment tools.

Assessment and Grading

• Ensure that formative and summative assessments occur for all students, and evaluate the quality to ensure usefulness for all students.


• Collaborate with Senior Director for Accreditation, Measurement and Educational Scholarship on selection of assessment methods and design of grading rubrics, and implement these tools.


• Ensure timely completion of final grades for each student.


• Identify students with academic difficulty in a timely manner and bring them to the attention of the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum. Work with CAS course faculty and course leadership to provide additional academic support to struggling or remediating students.

Program Evaluation

• Design and analyze course evaluation data for continuous quality improvement.


• Work in partnership with the Assistant course director to ensure course content is aligned and consistent with LCME standards.

Student Advising

• Advise and mentor medical students regarding academic, curricular, and career matters.
  Leadership and Management


• Serve on and Chair the Netter SOM CAS Course Committee and serve on other course, clerkship, and education committees, including Committee on Curriculum Oversight.


• Maintain an active membership in your specialty's medical student educational professional society, including attending annual meetings.


• Serve as an educational leader and manager demonstrating effective engagement in the SOM educational system.


• Escalate concerns to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum or Senior Associate Dean for Education.


• Communicate effectively and design and engage in effective work flows with the Course Manager and Course Leadership Team


• Engage in educational scholarship, including publishing in medical education literature and presenting at regional and national meetings.
