Carrier Portfolio Manager at United Natural Foods Inc

Job Description:

PURPOSE:

The Carrier Portfolio Manager works in conjunction with the Logistics Operations team to successfully manage the strategic execution of the logistics carrier portfolio and $270M annual freight expense budget. This position leads regular carrier RFPs, including data collection, rate analysis, carrier related communications and presentation; growth of existing third-party carrier relationships; successful carrier and mode forecasting and balancing; identification, vetting, and onboarding new carrier partners to support business needs; helps resolve carrier conflictsthrough standard KPIs; Continuously improves reporting and scorecard through data, and supports ongoing development of transportation sourcing. Individual is the point of contact for the Logistics Operations team and carrier partners, regarding performance metrics, mode reviews and balance, and compliance. In addition, this role is also responsible for communicating and reviewing carrier EDI compliance, FourKites Integration implementation during onboarding, FourKites data management, consistent carrier reviews and feedback, as well as completing routine metric reporting.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Efficiently establish, manage, and maintain business partnerships with third-party and dedicated carriers, within the department’s multi-tiered carrier portfolio, including Intermodal, Over-the-Road, Less-than-Truck Load, and expedite options - 25%

• Independently negotiate lane rates in a consistent manner across the carrier portfolio to ensure access to best rates available - 15%

• Complete regular analytics pertaining to service KPIs, market rates, tender acceptance, utilization, FourKites notifications, and mode conversion 15% • Independently host routine carrier business review meetings - 13%

• Develop carrier capacity models to forecast and balance carrier and mode market share, including consideration of current carrier capacities in various geographical areas as well as carrier partners’ capacity capabilities - 10%

• Execute carrier rate bid cycles using BidDex, Alteryx, and Power BI to support expense management within $270M annual freight expense budget and evaluate RFP bid compliance through detailed analytics - 10%

• Monitor carrier Supply Chain visibility onboarding and compliance in FourKites - 5%

• Conduct research on shipping trends and industry developments to identify opportunity areas for review and growth - 5%

• Performs other relevant job duties as required-  2%

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education/ Certifications: (Required/Preferred-list requirement is required or preferred)

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent related experience

Experience:

• Three to five years’ related experience sourcing, vendor development, or supply chain logistics

• Previous Analytics/Logistics/Transportation experience.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office product applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)

• Proficient in standard analytical applications (Alteryx, Power BI)

Knowledge:

• Comprehensive understanding of transportation market and DOT guidelines

• Functional knowledge of DC operations responsibilities at UNFI – Crossdock, Backhaul, Routing, etc.

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) • Ability to critically think and apply reason for discovering solutions and efficiencies.

• Knowledge of management reporting techniques and presentation styles.

• Understanding of operational model for wholesale distribution company.

• Ability to work well with internal and external business partners.

• Ability to balance short-term vs. long-term demands.

Skills/ Abilities:

• Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are required

• Ability to negotiate, navigate difficult conversations tactfully, conflict resolution

• Ability to work in an office environment or remote setting, excellent phone, Microsoft Teams (computer) based meeting skills

• Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to identify and resolve issues
