The Division of Information Technology at Stevens is inviting applications for the position of Enterprise Data Architect to join a team of talented colleagues to shape the data, analytics, and business intelligence landscape at Stevens. This position has responsibility for the information architecture and integration of university data sources into Stevens’ enterprise data and analytics platforms, and will lead data governance and data management efforts in tandem with other IT leadership. You will be challenged with capturing requirements to inform business intelligence and analytics initiatives, creating data definitions and standards for data usage, developing and implementing processes and procedures to improve data quality, and ensuring a successful data service program. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with both IT team members as well as representatives from academic and administrative units to determine needs for data analytics, formulate strategies, and provide solutions to meet those needs using knowledge of the overall enterprise data landscape. You will work with a team of data professionals as well as data stewards, data analysts, and data consumers across Stevens toward the common goal of using data sharing to enable business objectives and produce insights to support decision-making, performance measurements, and student success. A combination of strong analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills, project management, and customer-centricity are key characteristics of a successful candidate for this position.

Responsibilities


  • Identifying all institutional data sources and information assets and developing a strategy to utilize those assets, in order to prioritize enterprise data warehouse and business intelligence projects

  • Contributing to the implementation and expansion of Stevens’ next generation cloud data warehouse, predictive analytics, and business intelligence solution through the analysis of business requirements and knowledge of data

  • Designing overall data architecture and developing data models for the enterprise data warehouse to meet both present and future business needs by integrating a variety of data from disparate source systems

  • Creating and maintaining documentation and diagrams of data architecture, data modeling, and data mappings

  • Establishing policies, standard operating procedures, and best practices related to data management to ensure data is managed, stored, and processed according to security and privacy requirements

  • Evaluating overarching business needs and goals in order to formulate information availability and data analytics strategies in support of those needs and goals and ensuring continuous improvement for the entire data and analytics space by maintaining current knowledge of business priorities, challenges, and opportunities

  • Collaborating with campus constituents to promote awareness of data governance and develop a framework and standards for the creation and maintenance of data definitions and metadata, as well as processes for data management and sharing, to maintain data consistency and data quality

  • Working closely with other Information Technology staff across the organization to recommend, plan, implement, and support innovative technology solutions by providing subject matter expertise in the areas of data architecture and data management

  • Proactively and continuously pursuing professional development and training to acquire new technical knowledge and skills

  • Performing other duties as assigned.

    • 10%: Other duties as assigned in support of overall IT strategic goals and synergy within IT



Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the field of information management, information science, or another data-related field; Master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in an enterprise environment; professional experience in higher education strongly preferred

  • Experience with business analysis and enterprise planning of data assets at all levels of an organization

  • Demonstrated success leading data analytics and/or data governance initiatives

  • Knowledge of data cataloging, data quality analysis, and master data management practices as well as experience with related tools, including an understanding of the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DAMA-DMBOK2)

  • Solid command of relational and dimensional database concepts/principles and data modeling

  • Experience with a variety of modern cloud data warehouse platforms and business intelligence products

  • Proficiency with SQL and data querying and modeling tools

  • Energetic, passionate, and self-motivated mindset with a strong desire to excel and flourish in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and a commitment to continued self-improvement

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and planning skills with an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and collaboratively with cross-functional units

  • Sound independent judgment and decision-making

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
