Summary:

The Director of Purchasing manages and oversees overall supply chain purchasing operations, including purchasing, inventory management and customer service levels. Develops and executes solutions to improve Customer Service issues related to vendor performance and forecast accuracy while also achieving inventory turns goals. Coordinates and resolves issues regarding existing and new products. Interacts with internal customers, specifically Distribution Center leadership, Demand Planning, Logistics, Merchandising and Sales to ensure that all requirements are being met. Requires 5-7 years of experience in the field or in a related area familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. A bachelor's degree in area of specialty or Certification in Supply Chain Management is strongly preferred. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring Service Expectations for Line Fill, Dollar Fill and Quantity Fill.
  • Responsible for achieving inventory turns targets.
  • Responsible for establishing and enforcing Inventory Management Process and Procedures.
  • Leads the coordination and execution of the Supply Chain portion of program-related buys.
  • Responsible for predicting and achieving month-end, quarter-end and year-end inventory forecasting.
  • Responsible for advancing skill level and general Supply Chain knowledge of direct reports
  • Drive Collaboration/coordination with the DCs to Optimize Supply Chain Functions.
  • Product Life Cycle Inventory Management; Sku transition Management.
  • Work collaboratively with the business units to define, publish, and develop appropriate business processes to enhance supply chain programs.
  • Create and manage project plans as appropriate.
  • Monitor compliance with project budgets and timelines.
  • Projects a positive image of the organization to employees, customers, industry, and community.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages a Supply Chain group of 7 Supply Chain Planners and Buyers with an emphasis on high customer service levels, achieving inventory turns and solving supply issues for the DCs and customers. Specifically, the position does the following:
  • Leads, coaches and develops planners and buyers with a focus on their technical purchasing skills, achieving inventory turns goals and customer service problem solving skills.
  • Effective delegation of service-related tasks to direct reports while serving as an escalation point when direct reports need assistance.
  • Leverages IO through working cross-functionally with IO leadership to ensure system parameters are optimized.
  • Ensures that planners and buyers interact positively with the DCs and the field in fully resolving supply and customer service issues.
  • Develops a planner / buyer scorecard with the most important KPIs that is maintained and used as measurement and development tool for planners and buyers
  • Leads the team to achieve the company inventory turns goals.
  • Works cross-functionally and collaboratively with Merchandising, the IO group and the BDMs to communicate proactively and effectively about upcoming supply and service issues.

Qualifications:

The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Supply Chain, Business Administration or related field, along with 5-10 years’ experience working in Purchasing, Supply Chain, or a relevant field. Should have experience in partnering with an executive team and have a high level of analytics, written and oral communication skills.

Other Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of Managerial Accounting. Experience in labor planning, cost control and capital budgets. PC proficiency is essential (Windows environment) and strong working knowledge of ERP, WMS and Labor management systems is preferred. A strong understanding of Industrial Engineering concepts is a highly desirable.
