JOB SUMMARY:

Primary function/purpose of this job.

The Clinical Director (Formulary Services DoD) position is an exciting opportunity to leverage their pharmacy and healthcare expertise to provide clinical leadership to the DoD Formulary Services Team. This leadership role is the key driver to create and deploy a strategy to streamline processes and clinical support to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Formulary Management Branch. This role is accountable to assist in the development of long term client satisfaction and enterprise growth opportunities. The Formulary Director will be expected to ideate clinical strategy, drive formulary consulting opportunities and provide leadership across the entire DoD Account Division. This position will lead overall healthcare market and drug trends and own the relationship with the client ensuring any evolution and trends are quickly translated to formulary recommendations. The Formulary Director will lead a team of seasoned pharmacist supporting DHA and will be a resource within the organization to develop others and provide forward-thinking leadership to move the business forward.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Team Leader: Ability to lead, develop and coach direct reports to achieve goals through the setting of performance expectations, delegation, performance appraisal and feedback, and support of individual career development. Oversees the formulary support, implementation, and execution of all clinical support for the DoD Formulary team.

  • Process Improvement: Create process improvement and organizational efficiency through streamlining various work and processes to ensure fully optimized support of clinicians servicing the client.

  • Manage Client Relationship: Develops relationships with client clinicians as well as internal clinicians ensuring knowledge transfer, expertise, and opportunities are identified and communicated to support formulary savings and best practices recommendations.

  • Clinical Thought Leader: Applies overall pharmacy/clinical knowledge to market realties and evolution to provide critical clinical insights that will impact drug trend and drug spend. Keeps up with all policies, practices, innovation to ensure their expertise drives and guides client and organizational actions to make healthcare simple, predictable and affordable.

  • Strategic Planning: Develops the complex client-specific formulary strategic plan ensuring ongoing monitoring to make adjustment as determined by the client and overall business opportunities. Uses advanced knowledge of the client to align both client needs and best business practice and services to determine business solutions that best fit the client while maximizing opportunities for growth.

  • Cross Functional Partnership: Leads aligning to client intent and implementation of clinical and formulary related programs thru consultative methods and processes (eg, quarterly/ annual reviews, modeling/ report reviews, business division communication vehicles, etc) in accordance with client business plans and upon collaboration and coordination with account management team members regarding operational details.

This position leads a team that solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions. Works independently and receives minimal guidance. Contacts are inter-organizational. This role contributes to the completion of specific programs and projects and represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources

Excellent presentation and communication skills required. Proven leadership skills, team-orientation, a proactive management style and strong commitment to client service a must. Must have the ability to work on multiple tasks, prioritize, resolve complex issues, and have strong project management skills. Must have ability to learn multiple internal reporting and analytic tools for client management.

QUALTIFIACTION TO ENTER THE JOB:


  • Bachelor of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy

  • Current US Pharmacist License

  • 5-7 years of Clinical and People Leadership experience

  • Superior verbal and written communication and presentations skills

  • Excellent strategic thinking, negotiation abilities, and problem-solving considering all of the potential implications of key decisions.

  • 5-10 years of pharmacy, managed care or PBM experience

  • 3-5 years of formulary management experience

  • Ability to work cross-functionally to proactively communicate and resolve issues

  • Ability to travel 15-20%

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft applications

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of $151,100 - $251,800, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
