Job Title: Community Service, Ventura County Legal Aid Law Clerk/LEPA

Department: Community Service (5120)

Reports to: Alexis Burdick / Cesar Libanati

Location: Ventura County Legal Aid

Position Summary:

The Family Justice Clerk will gain experience in Civil Law, with an emphasis in Family Law as well as Domestic Violence Restraining Orders. Evidentiary and Immigration are frequent collateral issues one will also gain exposure to. In addition, assistance with the Legal Eviction Protection Assistance Program, dealing with tenants rights in relation to Covid issues and will focus on providing assistance, education and referrals for households facing these issues.

Principle Duties:

Empathy may be the most important skill of a potential clerk as most clients are seeking assistance due to some form of abuse or crime that has taken place against them. Clerks are expected to shadow attorneys during intakes and consults, assist clients in preparing Requests for Order or supplemental filings, and track data points within the program.

The VCLA office at the Family Justice Center is open 8AM-5PM Monday through Friday and clerks will be granted flexibility in satisfying their requirements. However, time requirements do need to be satisfied M-F, during the 8AM-5PM time frame.

• No special skills required but individual must be organized, timely and responsible.

Position Qualifications:

• Enrolled student actively working to complete the Colleges of Law JD Degree.


• Student must be in "Good Standing" (Example GPA above 2,0 and not on probation)
