We are looking for a talented and experienced outboard marine mechanic to help manage and grow our service department. We are a fast growing and large Mercury/MerCrusier outboard, sterndrive and inboard Service Center, as well as a Suzuki outboard dealer, located in North Kingstown RI. You will be responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of our customers boats, engines and mechanical systems as well as working to develop the less experienced techs. An excellent lead mechanic must have great attention to detail and help develop a culture based around customer service, a high quality of work, and adherence to safety procedures. They must be able to work with specific marine equipment and tools as well as follow all safety precautions and management instructions.

Responsibilities
Diagnosis and repair boat engines, systems or mechanical components according to requirementsWork with the less experienced techs to help ensure a high level of serviceInspect outboards, inboards and sterndrive engines and, transmissions etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issuesConduct repairs aiming for maximum reliabilityTroubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely mannerPerform thorough maintenance on customer as well as yard owned machinery, equipment and systemsClean and apply lubricants to machinery componentsReplenish fluids and components of engines and machineryProvide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to management and vessel usersUndertake other marine and boat related duties as assignedKeep logs of work and report on issues
Skills
Proven experience as Mercury or Suzuki Certified Marine Mechanic. We will provide training.Excellent knowledge of marine engines, electrical and other systems and their componentsAptitude in using various hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers etc.) and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers)Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instruction, blueprints etc.A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelinesVery good communication skillsA problem-solving abilityHigh school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or Mercury University is a definite plus

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area.Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.

Technical and Physical Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent preferredTechnical school training preferred5 years experience preferredABYC and/or manufacturer certifications preferredAbility to ascend and descend a ladderMust carry own toolsAbility to work in confined spacesAbility to lift 50 poundsBasic boat handling skills preferredExperience with both gas and diesel engines preferred
