WATER PRACTICE

Michael Baker International's Water Group provides innovative consulting, planning and engineering solutions for the entire spectrum of the water cycle. Protection and management of water resources starts at the watershed level and follows the movement of water through urban and agricultural areas, streams, lakes and reservoirs, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants.

DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking an experienced and motivated Geospatial Information Technology (GIT) Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for input, update, modification, manipulation and providing basic analysis of GIS data. The GIT associate will join a collaboration of experienced planners, floodplain engineers, geospatial professionals, and project managers dedicated to serving our clients. The GIT Specialist will support the project team and project manager on multi-disciplinary planning and mapping projects across various geographic locations. This position will be an integral member of the Emergency Management and Response (EMR) team in the Alexandria, Virginia office supporting contracts with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), including FEMA Headquarters and Regions 1, 2, 3, and/or 5, and may be asked to support other contracts as needs arise.

Responsibilities include:


  • Utilizing GIS software as tool for developing solutions to complex planning problems
  • Extracting data from GIS software and using varying analysis methods to arrive at results
  • Providing maps and data sets using GIS software and related equipment to clients to supplement analysis
  • Designing and updating databases, applying additional knowledge of spatial feature representations
  • Extracting information from raster, vector, and Lidar datasets.
  • Gathering, analyzing, and integrating spatial data and determining how best the information can be displayed using GIS
  • Compiling geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps
  • Analyzing spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports
  • Supporting the development of floodplain mapping products, story maps etc.
  • Converting data from one coordinate system and vertical datum to another

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, geography, science, engineering, planning, mathematics or government or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with geographic concepts and/or GIS software and AutoCAD
  • Experience with Esri Software Suite (ArcMap, ArcPro, ArcGIS Enterprise).
  • Experience in CADD technologies with an emphasis on floodplain mapping
  • The candidate must possess strong analytical skills
  • Strong listening, writing and verbal communication skills
  • Proven work history, strong work ethic and team-player attitude

PREFERRED

  • Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP)
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)
  • Experience with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and FEMA's Risk Mapping Assessment and Planning (MAP) Program
  • Ability to travel periodically, as needed (less than 20% and once travel restrictions are lifted)
  • Industry involvement (e.g. Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), Project Management Institute (PMI), etc.)

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $54,392 - $132,763.
