Physical Therapy Assistant




Volunteers of America National Services (VOANS) is seeking a full-time Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) to join their team in CO! The Physical Therapy Assistant will be responsible for providing physical therapies and education to program participants. The Physical Therapy Assistant will assist the Physical Therapist with participant related activities and direct participant care. The PTA will be responsible for maintaining department records as per company policy.


The Physical Therapy Assistant will report to the Clinical Care Manager.



Salary Range: $26.00 -$28.75

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:



To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Essential Functions:
• Perform physical therapy treatments and related duties as may be delegated by the physical therapist.
• Respond promptly to acute changes in the participant's physiological state and report and record pertinent changes.
• Modify treatment techniques in conference with the registered physical therapist.
• Teach participants, participants' families, and other health care providers to perform selected treatment procedures and functional activities.
• Directly assist the physical therapist in performing complex evaluations and/or treatment procedures.
• Communicate Participant's changes and progress per treatment plan on a regular basis to Registered Physical Therapist.
• Maintain proper documentation according to state, federal PACE regulations.
• Maintain proper records according to PACE policy and procedures.
• Perform and record, if required, as specified by the planned treatment program, non-evaluative ongoing data.
• Measurements of vital signs, range of motion, strength, and linear increments.
• Types of assistive mobility devices used and the distances covered.
• Results of tests and evaluations performed by the registered physical therapist.
• Respond to psych-social support needs of the participant and/or the participant's family.
• Communicate appropriately and effectively with all personnel and document according to professional standards.
• Keep timely records, meet regularly with the Registered Physical Therapist, and attend care conferences as requested.
• Participate in patient care conferences and other rehabilitation-related meetings as appropriate.
• Communicate with Registered Physical Therapist and IDT members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans.
• Participate in in-service training programs for all staff in the facility.
• Instruct participants and family members and nursing staff in restorative and therapeutic maintenance programs.
• Abides by regulations pertaining to PACE as established by Federal and State Agencies and the Volunteers of America Health Facilities policies.
• Attends required in-services & completes assigned online modules.
• Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:



Required Qualifications:



1. A graduate from a physical therapist assistant curriculum approved by the American Physical Therapy Association and is currently licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the state (if license is available).


2. Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with the frail or elderly population required.


3. Good working knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and behavioral needs of the elderly population.


4. Demonstrates ability to problem solve and apply good judgment.


5. Demonstrate ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple priorities.


6. Able to understand medical terminology and how it applies to physical therapy, to communicate with participants, staff, IDT, and physicians, and how to prepare meaningful reports.


7. Coordination and dexterity are necessary when treating participants and handling therapeutic equipment.


8. Ability to communicate with the participants to establish a favorable attitude to motivate the participants to desired cooperation and effort in his/her rehabilitation development


9. Possesses adequate strength and endurance to meet the physical demands involved in moving participants and equipment into position for treatment and in manipulating equipment and residents.


10. Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for documentation.


11. Must have a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and have means of transportation.


12. Pass background check (drug, employment history and criminal)
