About the Team



The Observability team is committed to providing an incredible user experience across College Board sites and applications serving millions of students and thousands of colleges, schools, and districts. We are developing the industry's first seasonally adjusted observability system to give our development teams visibility into the current and predictive health of our applications based on anticipated traffic volumes through the year. In addition to improving the user experience, the work we do escalates our data analytics and signal selection capabilities, reduces costs, and increases the quality of life for our internal development teams. We are a highly interactive team of 6 engineers that puts our focus on productivity and the value we produce. We adjust to changing requirements quickly. We swarm sometimes and we go deep on an individual basis at other times. We learn and we teach. We are creative and value the merit of ideas.



About the Opportunity



As a Senior Engineer on the Observability team, you are an idea-generator, a catalyst, and a collaborator. You are a star in both front-end and back-end development who adheres to top-notch development practices. You thrive in an environment with a strong mix of creativity and productivity. Your eagerness and vision enable you to create and learn complex solutions. Your excellent communication and mentoring skills allow you to effectively sell solutions to the team while bringing them up to speed, enabling all to make healthy contributions.


In this role, you will:


  • Design, develop, unit test, implement, and document observability solutions that gauge the internal health of applications and reduce alert fatigue for our development teams.

  • Work with data to bring information out and provide visualizations that gauge the overall end user experience quickly and generate high quality alerts.

  • Develop and operate full stack applications based on REACT and Node.js.

  • Develop and support automation for AWS based applications using Python 3.




About You



You have:


  • 5-7 years of professional front-end and back-end software development experience

  • At least 2 years of recent cloud-based development experience using React and Node.js

  • Experience in the virtual infrastructure domain, specifically with AWS

  • Exceptional development practices

  • Strong ability to ideate and understand complex solutions

  • Ability to generate coding solutions to support business functionality along with strong understanding of the underlying infrastructure required to run that code and the systems required to deploy it

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related work experience



Additional nice-to-have's (not required):


  • Experience working in an Agile SCRUM environment

  • Experience with Python

  • Working knowledge of data science, data analytics and data visualizations using graphing libraries

  • Experience with anomaly detection and machine learning
