Job Description:

The Behavioral Health Clinician works as part of KANAs Behavioral Health team providing mental health care in the form of individual, family, group therapy, case management, and crisis counseling for patients presenting with mental health or dual diagnosis needs. Provides clinical assessment and counseling services with fidelity to appropriate evidence based treatment models with a biopsychosocial approach that appreciates the physical, mental, cultural, and spiritual needs of each client. Provides individual and family counseling services to adolescents, children, and adults based on training and skill level, and completes assessments, diagnosis, and treatment plans to support patient progress towards improved life functioning and psychological wellbeing. Provides clinical supervision to Behavioral Health Aides and travels monthly to village communities to provide clinical care.

Incorporate KANAs core values of Courtesy, Caring, Respect, Sharing, and Pride in all activities and decisions.Uphold KANAs Code of Ethics by conducting professional activities with honesty, integrity, respect, fairness, and good faith in a manner that reflects positively upon the organization.Develop therapeutic helping-relationships with clients that are based on unconditional positive regard, empathy, and honesty that is balanced with grace.Complete integrated behavioral health assessments and screenings that demonstrate clinical understanding of evidence based appraisal methods and formulate DSM 5 diagnosis of mental health and/ or addiction and common co-occurring disorders for adults and adolescents.Ensure assessments examine the whole person, differentiate between chemical use, addiction, mental health symptomatology and disorder, and medical issues, to establish an accurate diagnosis.Conduct clinical assessment interviews that explore implications of a clients developmental history, family and social system, and the course their addiction has taken.Create individualized treatment plans that are clinically relevant to psycho-pathology and addiction history and that integrate the clients personal complexities of social, cultural, vocational, developmental, and family dynamics as well as their current stage of change and level of motivation.Develop and maintain a solid treatment referral system that enables clients to access higher or lower levels of care when these cannot be provided by KANA directly. Maintain positive collaborative relationships with community agencies and participate in prevention work as assigned.Manage an individual, clinical case load comprised of adolescents and adults in the Kodiak borough and outlying villages. Children as assigned and within your range of expertise.Manage an average caseload of five (5) billable contact hours per day during a standard work day.Travel monthly to remote village by small plane to provide clinical services and supervise their Behavioral Health Aide when assigned.Participate in peer review process for quality improvement; attend clinical staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education conferences as scheduled.Document all clinical services thoroughly and accurately in compliance with State, Federal, professional and ethical guidelines and submit documentation per agency policy. All documentation must be signed off in EHR within 72 hours of appointment completion.Complete all necessary CMEs annually to maintain licensure.

Position Specific Competencies
Ability to analyze concepts and models of psycho-pathology and demonstrate understanding of integrated evidenced based treatment models and interventions for mental disorders.Ability to demonstrate an understanding of a clinicians role in addressing psychopharmacology and anti-addiction medications.Ability to understand the cultural complexities and influences on the expression and interpretation of psychopathology, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders.Ability to integrate understanding of family systems and social-developmental theories in to counseling work and treatment plans to effectively build life-skills and social competencies.Knowledge of specific crisis intervention strategies and stabilization procedures.Ability to design individualized intervention plans according to stages of change and patient preferences, and sensitivity for when such a plan needs to be updated or changed in response to changes in patient motivation, circumstances, and progress.
