POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the HVAC Shop Supervisor, the HVAC Technician Maintain repairs and services air conditioning and heating systems.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:



  • Realigns fans, motors, air handlers, pumps and/or other building equipment for proper operations. Replaces belts,
    adjusts pulleys 'and changes filters. Lubricates motors, air handlers, pumps, compressors, linkages, and other
    building equipment.

  • Replaces motors, bearings, fans and pulleys. Cleans evaporators, condensers, relays, chill water coils, humidifiers,
    air handlers, and strainers. Changes oil in compressors and vacuum pumps. Changes oil in compressors and
    vacuums pumps

  • Cleans compressors electric contacts or relays. Performs major services, repairs and installations on a wide variety
    of air conditioning units and packaged type units, split systems and central air conditioning units. Provides services
    for heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems.

  • Maintains, repairs, installs various equipment. Performs scheduled maintenance tasks, answers emergency or
    trouble calls, conducts preventive maintenance procedures on equipment, operates all building air conditioning,
    refrigeration, heating and ventilation equipment manually or remote control

  • Maintains and repairs reach-in and walk-in boxes, ice machines, self-contained and central water coolers, deep
    freezers and related equipment

  • Diagnoses malfunctions and repairs or replaces components such as compressors, valves, evaporates, relays,
    switches and pneumatic controls, inspects and tests for correct operations of refrigeration cycles and checks for
    excessive refrigeration loads.

  • Support and enforce all policies of the university, as well as university health and safety regulations and
    guidelines.

  • Reports any necessary repairs to supervisor. Attend to emergencies when necessary

  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.


EQUIPMENT/ COMPUTER SKILLS: This role routinely uses equipment such as power tools, outdoor equipment, for the repair and general maintenance of university equipment.



  • Ability to inspect and diagnose malfunctioning of equipment and to make repairs. Competence in both oral and
    written English


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High School diploma or GED and one year of related work experience. Previous experience in a school
    setting strongly desired . Vocational or any other technical school, training, or apprenticeship beyond HS
    may be substituted and considered in lieu of experience.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, lift, pull, push and walk for a minimum of three hours. Also must possess the ability to lift at least 45 lbs. using safe lifting techniques. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


WORKING CONDITIONS: This position operates in an industrial plant and collegial environment; potential to work near and with moving mechanical parts; with regular exposure to electricity, fumes, dirt, airborne particles, hazardous materials and outdoor weather conditions.
