The Grid Model Enhancement Project (GMEP) is an ongoing 5-year (2021-2025) project with a CapEx budget of ~50M. It is Avangrid's response to the urgent and critical need for accurate and readily accessible data pertaining to its electric distribution infrastructure.
This is an essential initiative to enhance the processing of large-scale Distribution Energy Resource (DER) interconnection applications, calculating Distributed Generation hosting capacities, review non-wire alternative solutions, and to identify new projects or potential upgrades to mitigate current reliability concerns.
The GMEP project deliverables will improve the accuracy of the physical and electrical data represented in Avangrid databases (Geographic Information System -GIS, and assets inventories). The updated data model will allow for advanced analysis, monitoring, control, planning, and forecasting of the Electric Distribution System.
As a transformational project, GMEP identifies and implements changes in the processes and responsibilities in all areas of the Companies from initial planning through field execution with a focus on efficient and transparent end to end asset data lifecycles.
This position within the GMEP core team will play a key role in the success of all Change Management activities, including the following:
Document the current Data Maintenance Processes.
Conduct workshops to identify current process improvement opportunities.
Establish a streamlined quality control process to maintain integrity of the data model from data capture through data analysis during blue sky and storm restoration scenarios.
Leverage PROSCI methodology to conduct an impact assessment (people, process, and technologies) to determine breadth and depth of changes to impacted stakeholders to discern communications and training plans.
Develop and seek internal buy-in for Data Governance guidelines for electrical asset records.
Collaborate with the execution and deliverables integration of comprehensive field survey covering 1,900 electric distribution circuits (44,000 miles) at NYSEG and RG&E, and 475 electric distribution circuits (24,000 miles) at CMP.
