Amerisure is recruiting for an Accountant II to join our team. This position will be hybrid, working in our Farmington Hills, MI office two days a week. 

Position Summary:

Responsible for a variety of accounting activities related to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger, related subsidiary accounts, and the resultant managerial reports and financial statements.  Responsible for specific statutory statements and reports, subject to general review and approval.  May be responsible for all accounting activities related to specific accounts or functional areas of the company.

Responsibilities:


  • Coordinates and performs monthly close process.   Ensures completeness and accuracy of related entities’ books.


  • Participates and performs testing of financial software upgrades.  May be responsible for training staff on new functionality.


  • Classifies and records transactions to company accounts; verifies that transactions have been properly supported and classified meeting accounting, corporate and legal requirements; reverses or corrects if necessary. 


  • Prepares periodic analyses and written reports and/or statements such as monthly, quarterly and annual statements for use by company management and statutory filings.


  • Creates and maintains relevant working papers to support exhibits for quarterly and annual filings. 


  • Coordinates audits and exams by outside entities (CPA firm, MAIPF, State, etc). 


  • Serves as a technical resource, and/or provide basic training to team members.  


Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree preferably with a major in accounting or finance.


  • CPA and/or CTP preferred.


  • 5 years’ experience in accounting or finance.   Insurance industry experience preferred.


  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and Beginner skills in Microsoft Word.


  • Knowledge of statutory accounting principles.


  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.


  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.


  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail.


  • Knowledge of statutory accounting principles.
