Summary:

Plans, schedules and monitors the movement of materials through the production cycle to determine required materials purchases. Obtains materials using engineering and production schedules to maintain inventory at planned levels (i.e., Just in Time purchases, use of EOQ - Economic Order Quantities). Resolves discrepancies. Creates and maintains bills of material and parts/commodities numbers in supply chain management or other enterprisewide systems. Ensures material standards are met and non-conformances or variances are approved and/or minimized. Develops specifications for new contract orders. Gathers quotations, examines bids and makes awards. Monitors cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. Evaluates vendor reliability and develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are no longer competitive.

The Supply Chain Buyer / Planner position is akey role within our strategic plan for the VIAVI Supply Chain. An enthusiastic self-starter with a strong drive to improve existing processes and systems is highly desired. Excellent organizational skills, ability to balance immediate/long term priorities and exceptional multitasking skills are a necessity. Responsibilities • Key objectives will be achieving/improving/exceeding targeted customer service levels, managing inventory levels and targets and managing supply and demand within the Global Supply Chain. • Plans, schedules, and monitors the movement of materials through the production cycle to determine required materials purchases. • Obtains materials using engineering and production schedules to maintain inventory at planned levels (i.e., Just in Time purchases, use of EOQ - Economic Order Quantities). Gathers quotations, examines bids and makes awards. • Monitors cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. • Evaluates vendor reliability and develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are no longer competitive. • Work with key stakeholders to properly prioritize production plans. • Determine and coordinate with Manufacturing the requirement for and availability of raw product to support the production plans. • Manage inventory targets (including safety stock levels) that are approved by management. • Maintain and adjust minimum/maximum on-hand inventories to support fluctuations in demand. • Identify and execute opportunities to improve supply chain efficiency. • Prepare, report, and communicate forecast and inventory measurements to management (forecast accuracy, inventory plan vs. targets) • Monitor SKU levels and recommend SKU rationalization initiatives in the future • Proactively facilitating, re-engineering, best practices & consensus between functional experts (Demand Planning, Inventory Planning, Purchasing, Sales & Marketing, Operations, Finance, and IT) • Knowledge of key inventory performance metrics, turns, margin contributions, etc. • Ability to lead cross-functionally • Collaborative skills in resolving long and short positions in inventory

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Experience and Education • Minimum BA/BS in Industrial Engineering, or Business or Logistics Management or equivalent experience/training. • APICS certification preferred • 3-5 years of experience • Strong systems and analytical skills • ERP Systems & Shipping systems knowledge a must During the rapidly changing Covid situation, VIAVI continues to monitor the situation to keep our employees safe.
