Job Description:

We are excited to announce that we are seeking Team Line drivers to perform weekly trips between Mount Vernon, WA and Fairbanks/Anchorage, AK.  LTI-Milky Way is the leader in bulk commodities transportation throughout the Pacific Northwest and we are continuing to grow as well as seek new members of our talented team.  LTI, Inc. pioneered the Alcan highway in the 1950’s and began providing scheduled over-the-road service to major Alaska communities. 

 

We are offering this opportunity to any qualified driver interested in working as a Team Line driver on the Alcan Highway. Drivers will be required to report to our Mount Vernon terminal for weekly trips departing on Tuesday and Friday nights.

 

Trips will be scheduled as 2 trips on and one trip off type scenario, departing weekly. The rate of pay will be $36.00 per hour or mileage equivalent plus incentives for safe driving experience and future longevity.  A typical trip will take an estimated 4 1/2 to 5 days to complete.  We encourage teams to apply, but all applicants are welcome. 

 

PLEASE NOTE: This position requires a vaccination for Canadian travel, Passport or Enhanced Driver’s License for Canadian travel, Haz Mat endorsement, and a minimum of 5 years of driving experience. 

• Our drivers are paid hourly for ALL on-duty work time, which includes pre and post trip, all loading as well as unloading time paid at the same rate.


• $36.00/hour base, all rates subject to 1.5 x OT rate for any work time over 40 hours in one week.


• Daily subsistence pay for food is provided. 


• Hourly paid safe driving bonus, subject to OT. For every year of documented safe driving with previous employment from an accredited safety program or accrued with us, we will increase your base pay.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Follows company safety protocol and regulations at all times.


• Drives truck to destination.


• Follows detailed company protocols on pickup and delivery of product.


• Follows all customer and client protocols involved in the pickup and delivery of product.   


• Prepares receipts for load picked up and delivered as well as corresponding time sheet.


• Inspects truck, truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil and water, for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition.


• Fuels, lubricates, and completes minor repairs when necessary.


• Maintains truck cleanliness.


• Inspects exterior of equipment for cleanliness and exterior for leaks or damages.


• Maintains driver log according to I.C.C., state and federal regulations.


• Maintains safe telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive pick up and delivery instructions.


• Performs emergency roadside duties such as installing tire chains, changing fuses or light bulbs.


• Possesses mechanical aptitude necessary to determine plan of action in emergency situations.


• May be required to hook and unhook trailers as well as crank landing gear.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Employee must meet Department of Transportation requirements. Must have a CDL with Class A Air, Doubles, and Haz Mat endorsements.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Education or G.E.D or equivalent are preferred and a minimum of 5 years commercial truck driving experience.  Knowledge of current customers, requirements and processes is helpful.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals and shipping documents.  Ability to speak effectively to customers and/or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand detailed written and oral instructions; ability to prioritize and problem solve in time and safety sensitive situations.

 

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

Must possess at least valid Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License with Haz Mat and doubles endorsements, have acceptable driving record, and be at least 21 years of age.

The duties of this position may include the potential for forklift work, as well as tractor driving for the successful candidate possessing a valid Class 'A' CDL. 

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.  The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.

 

REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

Employee is required to wear PPE as outlined in Company’s Industrial Health and Safety Manual PPE Program, which may include hard hat, safety toe shoes/boots, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, respiratory protection and arctic gear.
