 JOB PURPOSE

This position supports Thompson’s mission by maintaining a clean, sanitary, comfortable, and tidy environment to all identified on and off campus buildings and/or equivalent through exceptional housekeeping and general laborer practices.


SHIFT SCHEDULES



  • Sunday-Thursday: 3pm to 12 midnight 

  • Tuesday-Saturday: 3pm to 12 midnight


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  










































Ability to work the assigned shift, which will include weekends



Performs routine, general, and comprehensive custodial maintenance services safely. Clean and remove trash in assigned areas, including academic buildings, medical buildings, parking lots, public ground areas, and other buildings. Remove trash and clean the exterior of buildings up to 25 feet from the building.



Cleans and disinfects restrooms, laboratories, classrooms, libraries, lockers, washrooms, common public areas, meeting rooms, etc. Sweeps, mops, waxes, vacuums, and buff floors and corridors. Stocks facilities with paper products and supplies. May move furniture, equipment, classroom supplies, etc., as part of cleaning tasks.



Operate machinery and equipment such as auto scrubbers, pressure washers, vacuums, carpet extractors, power tools, brooms, mops, dusters, etc. Utilize proper cleaning methods and chemicals to ensure safe handling. Dispose of waste materials with care.



Perform setup and cleanup of facilities for meetings, conferences, events, etc., on and about the campus. Perform general cleanup on the grounds as required.



Provide labor support as needed. Assist the transportation and moves department with moving functions and trash removal: May move and set up furniture, equipment, classroom supplies, etc.



Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.



Directs traffic when necessary to ensure the safety of pedestrians, motorists, and work crew.



May lock and unlock assigned buildings, secure buildings by checking for unlocked doors and windows. Report any unusual activity to supervisor and/or security.



May operate Thompson Facilities Services maintained campus vehicles to drive equipment to shops for repairs and general servicing, as required.



Demonstrate Thompson’s core principles of “Do the Right Thing,” “Do the Best You Can Do,” and “Treat Others the Way You Would Like to be Treated.”



As assigned and needed to do the right thing, any other duties help fulfill our mission and support our client while consistent with standard operating procedures and policies.

  • As necessary, is available for additional hours, on-call hours, and late, overnight, or weekend emergency call hours.

EXPERIENCE and REQUIREMENTS



  • 2+ years of housekeeping/custodian experience in a university setting preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license from state of residence (preferred).

  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with extreme weather fluctuations.


EDUCATION



  • Ability to read and write English to understand Material Safety Data Sheets

  • High School Graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) preferred.


POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK


This position is “essential,” which may require work during weather emergencies or any other type of emergency.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


This position is physically demanding. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, lift, pull, push, climb ladders, twist, and walk for a minimum of three hours on the campus terrain. Ability to work off of a ladder or lift platform. Ability to lift, push, and pull at least 50 lbs. using safe lifting techniques.


WORKING CONDITIONS


This position operates on a university campus with exposure to waste, hazardous materials, wide-ranging outdoor weather conditions, stairs, sidewalks, etc.  Work is performed during days, evenings, and nights inside various campus buildings where lighting and ventilation may be inadequate. Work is also performed on campus grounds and parking lots.
