Job Description

The Tax Analyst is responsible in carrying out deliverables for the assigned area and USWA tax group in general and supports the day-to-day activities of the USWA area. This includes preparation of the NAIC taxable income forecast (up to taxable income only). Additionally, the position prepares, analyze and reconciles various tax returns (941, 945 and 1042 federal returns and multiple state and local jurisdiction tax returns) filed quarterly and annually. This position is also responsible for various software tasks including creation of reports using Pivot tables and other advanced software apps (Power BI) and supporting internal DAISY software. This position may also be assigned special purpose projects and assist in ongoing automation and digital initiatives of the department.

Individual Responsibilities:


  • NAIC forecast through taxable income.

  • Tax Returns: prepares VEBA Plan 990 and 990-T.

  • Tax Returns: prepares various federal, state and local tax returns filed quarterly and annually.

  • Assists in the reconciliation of $1.4B in annual tax remittance and reporting activity between the department (USWA), the IRS, State and/or Local jurisdictions and John Hancock's business units.

  • Performs technical review of transactions & impact of legislative changes impacting US withholding obligations.

  • Serves as software tax expert for data extraction from the ADP/GV payroll system including Pivot tables and Power BI.

  • Supports DAISY process and internal software.

  • Provides technical assistance in the ongoing digital automation efforts of the department including collaboration with HR Benefits and Payroll areas and John Hancock's business units.

  • Works closely with Payroll department in producing accurate and timely employee W2 returns.

Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent commensurate experience coupled with external training desired.

  • 0 to 3 years of experience in a corporate tax department or accounting department.

  • Proficiency in software (Power BI, Pivot tables, Excel)

  • Ability and willingness to learn additional software apps as needed by the department .

  • Ability to learn understanding of ADP/Global View technology that supports payroll tax functions.
