• Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field

• In reference to licensure: CPR and First Aid certification must be attained by end of introductory period.

1. Physical
o Arrives for shift each day on time and prepared to perform classroom responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
o Ability to interact in all gross motor activities with the children (sitting on the floor, dancing, exercising, playing various activities outside and inside).
o Ability to change clothes and diapers according to processes outlined in orientation materials.
o Ability to perform CPR and First Aid when necessary. Current certification of both CPR and First Aid are filed in the department.
o Ability to lift 50 pounds or more on a daily basis.
2. Cognitive
o Ability to observe children within a wide range of vision; respond for safety and emergency care; provide warmth, acceptance, and accurate interpretation of children's needs.
o Ability to identify developmental, emotional, and/or physical limitations; assess developmental needs; and design age- and needs-appropriate curriculum.
o Demonstrates good judgement in making decisions in all aspects of childcare; organizes time and deals with multiple priorities.
o Uses descriptive feedback when engaging with children.
o Provides documentation as required - - Child-related daily child activity sheets, Accident Reports, Medication Forms; Personnel-related: educational certificates, health form.
o Empowers children to try new things and celebrates children's achievements without creating tension when a child is resistant.
o Provides appropriate opportunities for children to engage in stimulating play while following the classroom routines with a flexible attitude.
o Ability to properly convey written departmental policies to customers and co-workers.
o Within the curriculum promotes language development and problem solving; encourage children's healthy attachments and feelings of security.
o Complete required number of professional development hours per state licensing regulations (not to include CPR and/or First Aid training).
3. Interpersonal Skills
. Greets parents, children, extended family, and other visitors immediately and warmly.
o Acknowledges co-workers from other departments when at the center to perform duties (Housekeeping, Plant Operations, Food and Nutrition).
o Works in areas other than primary classroom without complaint (including morning and afternoon combining to meet ratios, working in other classrooms during holidays, and generally helping as needed).
o Attends each department staff meeting and participates by being involved in discussions regarding the program.
o Maintains professional relationships with staff and families by adhering to confidentiality policies at work and outside work.
4. Safety
o Complies with all hospital policies; local fire and health department codes; New Hampshire state Childcare Licensing Bureau Regulations; and NAEYC Accreditation standards.
o Takes initiative to complete Plant Operations/Maintenance work orders when the need is observed; exercises care in the operation and use of childcare equipment.
o Monitors safety of children through observations of individuals and the environment on a continuous basis.
o Thoroughly performs opening and closing procedures (including setting building alarm when appropriate, turning off appliances, and locking doors).
o Is familiar with and follows guidelines of the center's Security Statement - - introducing self to unfamiliar visitors; asking for photographic identification; calling Security (2448) when necessary; and being knowledgeable of hospital emergency codes (back of ID badges).
o Immediately reports safety and security concerns to a department supervisor.
