The Borrowing and Cost of Capital team is part of the Treasury organization at Prudential Financial. The team’s core responsibility is to manage and execute the company’s funding strategy (e.g., capital structure and funding solutions) and manage and develop cost of capital (e.g., required return for use of capital), which is used to support ongoing operations and strategic initiatives across the enterprise.

This is a unique opportunity for someone to experience the development of cost of capital from start to finish, as well as support execution of debt and equity capital markets transactions in line with the company’s objectives and funding plan. The individual will also have opportunities to lead process improvement projects and develop technology driven solutions to improve analytics. In addition, the candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with various businesses and functions (including Actuarial, the Chief Investment Office and Enterprise Risk Management) across the broader Prudential community and gain exposure to senior management, including the CFO and Treasurer.

The team is seeking a manager who is highly motivated, resourceful, and familiar with the businesses at Prudential. The individual should ideally have strong corporate finance knowledge and be able to balance the theoretical aspect of corporate finance with a degree of practicality.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for supporting capital market initiatives primarily on the debt capital markets (e.g., issuances, liability management, capital structure evaluation)


  • Support engagement with external banking partners to understand market dynamics, execution strategies and competitor transaction intelligence


  • Responsible for (1) developing Enterprise Cost of Capital and Business Unit Cost of Capital and providing thought leadership on Product Cost of Capital and (2) continuing to evolve methodologies to be market standard


  • Collaborate with areas of Treasury, BU Finance, and business leaders to drive evolution of Cost of Capital and its integration into other processes such as Value of New Business


  • Develop and enhance analytics around Cost of Capital and implement tools/dashboards to enable further insights


  • Develop and maintain documentation around Prudential’s Cost of Capital frameworks, philosophies, and procedures as well as transaction specific documentation and presentations
     


Qualifications & Skills:


  • At least 5 years work experience in finance, accounting or treasury field; ideally, corporate finance background


  • MBA with finance or accounting concentration or other degree with CFA, CPA, ASA, or FSA designation is highly preferred


  • Strong knowledge of life insurance, risk management, and actuarial concepts, GAAP and statutory accounting strongly preferred.


  • Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to break down complex actuarial or financial concepts and communicate them to all levels of management.


  • Demonstrated leadership and partnering skills, including success in influencing outside of direct reporting line


  • Committed to continuous process improvement and ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment


  • Team player, but ability to be productive independently


  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, and strong project management skills


  • Knowledge of Prudential’s businesses and internal frameworks/systems is preferred

Note: Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $108,000.00 to $160,700.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance. In addition, employees are eligible for standard benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental and retirement.
