We are seeking a full-time Software Certification Engineer for our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for working with software development teams to ensure compliance to regulatory and internal standards through certification of Garmin Aviation software releases by preparing certification documentation, and/or by conducting software quality assurance activities.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Conducts and/or supports Software Quality Assurance (SQA) audits on increasingly complex projects to ensure compliance to RTCA DO-178B/DO-178C and to Garmin standards
Drafts software certification plan documents
Modifies and/or develops scripts to aid in the completion of documents and audits
Participates in the maintenance of software standards and forms
Supports high level software product testing as needed
Proposes solutions to issues that arise in document completion or audit closure
Collaborates and adds value to software process and certification
Conducts root cause research involving source code analysis, requirements, testing or process
May approve software life cycle data for compliance to RTCA DO-178B/DO-178C, in support of product TSOAs or conformities
Shares process expertise with product development teams and offers suggestions for process improvements
Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
Works cooperatively with Engineering teams to negotiate resolutions for issues found in SQA functions
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Must possess a minimum of 1 year experience in at least one of the following areas: software development processes, process auditing, or aviation software regulatory documentation
Demonstrated proficient use and knowledge of engineering tools to complete well defined basic tasks and/or projects
Superior organizational, analytical skills, time management and follow-up skills with keen attention to detail and quality
Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word & Excel
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Experience working with RTCA DO-178B/DO-178C process
Experience in software development/verification
Software root cause analysis experience
