Overview / Responsibilities


Construction Manager


Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking an experienced Environmental Construction Manager to provide office and field engineering for several environmental remedial construction projects in the Central Portion of New York State. Typically, our CMs will spend most of their time on-site performing project assignments to ensure that projects are completed safely, correctly, within budget, and on time. CMs are expected to prepare technical proposals and reports, in whole or in part, and/or to manage the preparation of the proposals and reports associated with the projects they manage. The CMs work may be reviewed by the project manager and/or appropriate more senior-level technical professionals including client review. Specifically, for these New York State projects, the Wood CM will be acting as the client representative and on-site remedial construction manager but will work closely with the client's project manager daily.


  • Current sites are in the Central Portion of New York State. The candidate will be expected to relocate to New York State. Current residence in New York State is a plus.

  • May travel frequently to project sites, including sites remote from the office, as part of on-site team.

  • Will require site work around heavy construction equipment, drilling rigs, and environmental contamination.

  • Overtime and overnight stays will be required.

  • Some fieldwork may occasionally require working with hazardous materials but not typically be substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

  • Candidate will be required to follow all applicable health and safety procedures associated with work environment.




Skills / Qualifications


Key Responsibilities


  • Perform construction management oversight for day-to-day activities related to specific portions of broader engineering and environmental projects. Demonstrates competency in a combination of areas including field supervision, technical knowledge, and project management. Construction oversight of subcontractors is necessary.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple project stakeholders.

  • Ability to perform construction management and documentation of multiple field activities simultaneously.

  • Ability to document daily field activities for inclusion within the daily field report submittals.

  • Responsible for making correct interpretations of findings and can recognize and identify inconsistent or inappropriate results; knows how and when to apply standard practices and techniques to unusual situations; knows when to consult with more senior-level technical professionals regarding how to resolve a problem, respond to a question or take an action that is appropriate.

  • Motivates, trains and mentors subordinate staff personnel assigned to his/her tasks or projects.

  • Assumes full management responsibility and accountability for managing assigned medium to large tasks or projects under the general direction of appropriate more senior-level technical professional; develops project strategy and scope with more senior personnel; develops realistic budget and is accountable for them; provides review of project deliverables.

  • Manages and communicates results, budget and schedule information to the client, project manager and appropriate operations management during routine project calls.

  • Represents Wood and interacts in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignments.

  • Responsible for ensuring the Firm's administrative and financial policies and procedures as well as the methods and procedures specific to his/her specific discipline are followed.

  • Understands, applies and oversees safety requirements in the field.

  • Bachelor's Degree is desirable but not mandatory.

  • 10+ years of experience in environmental and civil construction management.

  • Workload is expected to be 100% on-site.

  • Candidate will be required to work overtime hours in excess of 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week on a routine basis.

  • Strong work ethic and high degree of flexibility and patience to adjust to changing work priorities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience in MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Teams is necessary.

  • Ability to obtain OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training is required. Current OSHA 40-hour certification is a plus.

  • Ability to obtain OSHA 30-hour Construction training is required. Current OSHA 30-hour certification is a plus.

  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Company's driving (MVR) policy.
