Power System Engineer

The Power System Engineer works under the direction of the Power and Energy Consulting Leader and is responsible for leading and executing engineering work for data center customers on a national level. Job location is within the US. They are responsible to ensure that the work performed by the consulting organization is consistent with the SOW quoted to the customer as well as ensuring that the work performed meets the customer's needs and expectations.

Engineers are responsible for working with project management to ensure that the work executed and satisfies specifications and customer needs and is completed within the project timeline and budget. Projects will encompass assessments, office-based design, on site data collection, commissioning, support and troubleshooting and account ownership. Some projects may require travel and onsite work to be performed outside of regular working hours.

The Power System Engineer will be responsible for highly technical projects that require specialization in design, protective relaying and protection and controls. They will work with other individuals, in a team oriented environment, and be responsible for the work outlined for our customers as well as acting as a consultant for our customers' needs.

In this role, you will develop relationships with key customers and work to become the trusted advisor for them in order to facilitate an effective partnership and drive incremental business. The Power System Engineer should become the technical advisor to both internal SE entities (sales, business development, etc) and to external customers. They would be expected to meet with customers as needed by the sales team to ensure that the offer that is presented solves these issues or meets these goals.

Typical Responsibilities


  • Executes and manages projects or leads project execution.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced staff
  • Develops technical and commercial proficiency for all of SE Services offers
  • Technical advice during pre-sale engineering consulting
  • Develop solutions for complex power system engineering problems
  • Proposal development
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key customers
  • Acts as Principal on projects

Qualifications

  • BSEE or MSEE
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 8 years of experience in engineering or team leadership
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Expert in at least one, if not many, of the following areas of expertise:

    • Electrical power system studies
    • Electrical distribution design
    • Switchgear Automation and PLC applications
    • Relay programming and commissioning
    • Safety, risk, health, reliability, optimization, energy assessments.
  • Industry leadership and recognition
  • Large and multi-discipline project leadership
  • Demonstrated experience to develop project scope and identify project risks (technical, schedule, cost, change order)
  • Proven ability to develop win strategy (differentiators, competitive environment, commercial strategy)
  • Safety conscious
  • Situational awareness, social intelligence, listening, problem-solving skills
  • Ability to analyze and interpret engineering documents, codes and standards, technical procedures
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to assist others in understanding project objectives and specifications and see various points of view

  • Able to simultaneously address project details without losing the big-picture
