Job Description:

Leads the operations of the Formulations Department including formulations and blending, with responsibilities in the efficient utilization and coordination of raw materials for the production lines.  Establish formulation standards in conjunction with Product Innovation and assure standards are met.  Responsible for providing technical expertise and training for operations, coordinating experimentation and interfacing with Product Innovation for product development. This is a training role with opportunities to move onto Formulations, Production, QA, and Distribution.

What you’ll do:


  • Develop and control formulations that will be most efficient in terms of cost and utilization; control the cheese and ingredient usage through the blending system and monitor the online quality of blends.

  • Work with Formulations and Production Team Leaders to assist with plant trials across all four processed cheese plants in Southwest Missouri.

  • Manage the daily process cheese accountability function, supervise and train staff to assure accuracy of information in and out on the daily process accountabilities.

  • Maintain the rotating salvage, bulk cheese and ingredient inventories and implement systems to minimize all inventories.

  • Train and prepare to take on as Formulations Team Leader.

  • Act as liaison between corporate Product Innovation and plant for experiments and product development. 

  • Provide technical assistance in terms of data, training and expertise for other departments with special emphasis on SPC, TQA, HACCP, MRP, etc.

  • Lead many of the functions of the Standard Cost System.

  • Together with the leadership team, ensures compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans, in addition to customer requirements. Interprets and communicates customer requirements to plant production and/or support groups. Establishes and Audits PCPs, CCPs and Standard Operating Procedures to define and monitor processes, to ensure customer requirements are met. Reviews incidents during which the procedures are not met, and determines appropriate corrective action for partners failing to follow standard procedures.

What you need to succeed:


  • Bachelors in Food/Dairy Science, Animal Science, Microbiology, Chemistry/Chemical Engineering or related field.

  • 1-3 years of experience in operations, research, or manufacturing preferred.

  • Ability to work M-F approximately 7am -4pm with occasional nights and weekends for plant trials.

  • Willing to relocate.

  • Computer skills necessary to understand, train, and lead the essential functions of the Formulations position. 

  • Basic understanding of food chemistry typically obtained through a 4-year degree within the sciences.

  • Ability to travel throughout Southwest Missouri.
