Arthrex is actively searching for an Environmental Engineer for our Environmental Health & Safety Department. Main Objective:

The Associate Environmental Engineer assists with technical and operational support under the guidance of the Environmental Engineer.  Core objectives are to support each business location to meet the EPA’s regulations through waste stream determination, employee training, spill response, waste sample collection, chemical review and keeping adequate documentation. This position supports all areas of the Arthrex Environmental, Health and Safety Management System as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Perform departmental inspections ensuring compliance with internal environmental policies in addition to federal, state and local environmental regulations.

  • Provide training to Arthrex personnel related to hazardous materials, recycling programs, and new employee orientation.

  • Maintain accurate environmental records within the EH&S documentation folders. 

  • Maintain compliance records such as manifests, inspection reports, regulatory licenses, permits etc. and updating as needed.

  • Assists in establishing proper waste collection, storage and disposal practices per the EPA and DOT standards.

  • Maintain statistical data and present reports regarding environmental compliance and impact.

  • Assist in keeping records and developing reports that are submitted in a timely manner.

  • Assist with aligning internal practices toward ISO 14001 (International Organization for Standardization)

  • Ensure adequate cleanup materials and spill containment resources are readily available.

  • Participate in the Hazardous Materials Response Team

  • Maintain good vendor relationships.

  • Act as backup and support to other EHS functions as needed. 

  • Must have flexible hours with occasional evening and weekend work.

  • Travel occasionally both local and abroad as necessary.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or a closely related discipline required. 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements / Specialized Courses and/or Training:


  • Knowledge of Local, State and Federal laws pertaining to environmental protection.

  • Has the knowledge and skills necessary to interpret regulations, permits, and other technical data to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Must maintain First Aid, CPR and AED certification.

  • Must obtain Haz-Mat First Responder certification.

  • Works in a timely, organized manner, prioritizing workload and assignments

  • Competency in sample collection methodologies.

Mathematical Skills:

Maintains fundamental mathematic skills, including but not limited to, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Draw and interpret graphs and use basic statistics.

Language and Communication Skills:


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to successfully implement ideas, concepts and programs to other team members and management.

  • Ability to give group presentations in a comfortable, professional and confident manner.

  • Effective business communication writing skills.

  • Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  The position may require prolonged walking and standing, awkward postures, working at heights and in hot or cold conditions.  Must maintain medical qualification to serve as a HazMat first responder.
