Foster Care Specialist-$1500 Hiring Bonus at Child Saving Institute

  • Provide support and conduct regular home visits to foster families with 50% of time spent in direct foster care service provision. Provide initial and ongoing support to foster families, including conducting regular home visits to foster families a minimum of twice monthly.

  • Document all foster family and foster child contact within three days.

  • Complete assessments and service plans to assist foster families in meeting the needs of children in care.

  • Attend all Court Hearings, Family Team Meetings, Foster Care Review Board meetings, 1184 Treatment Team Meetings that pertain to or involve all assigned foster families and foster children, as well as maintain ongoing communication with all DHHS professionals, Family Permanency Specialists, Lead Agency contractors and collaborating service providers.  

  • Complete monthly reports by internal due dates and contracted deadlines.

  • Conduct supervised visits and sibling visits as needed.

  • Participate in foster parent recruitment activities in the Omaha community.

  • Identify resource families for children referred for foster care placement.

  • Respond to emergencies as appropriate, including during evenings and weekends.

  • Maintain all client files in compliance with guidelines established by the Council on Accreditation and agency policies and procedures.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Service or related field.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree plus a minimum of two years of working with children and families in Human Services or related fields.

  • General knowledge about child development and child abuse and neglect preferred.

  • A minimum age of 21 years or older.

  • Strong direct service professional skills, including:

    • Commitment to empowering others to solve their own problems.

    • Beliefs in a nurturing family as the ideal environment for a person and that people have the capacity to grow and change.

    • Ability to develop respectful relationships with persons served to help them gain skills and confidence;

    • Ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and other professionals; and

    • Ability to maintain a helping role, intervene appropriately to meet service goals and set appropriate limits.


  • Ability to use both micro- and macro-level thinking.

  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions in crisis situations.

  • Public speaking skills for use in training and presentations preferred.

  • Ability to interact with clients and staff with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics in the service population.

  • Ability to make logical and sound decisions based on experience and expertise in crisis situations.

  • Ability to make independent decisions and act accordingly, or with minimal support from supervisor including prioritizing responsibilities on a daily basis knowing that crisis situations can change appointments previously scheduled.

Vehicle Requirements:


  • Own transportation that meets agency vehicle inspection requirements.

  • Valid driver’s license with no more than 6 points.

  • Proof of insurance.
