The Dentist supervises, consults, refers and instructs Dental Hygiene Students.

Job Functions:

Role / Responsibility of the Clinical Dentist:

• Oversee and be present in the clinic during all clinic sessions


• Responsible for handling all medical emergencies that arise during clinic hours


• Prescribe proper medication as the need arises


• Administer local anesthesia when appropriate


• Answer questions from both students and patients


• Serve as authority to dental hygiene faculty/staff regarding dental matters


• Identify treatments for those patients that are medically compromised


• Identify pathologies and make the appropriate referral- medical and or dental


• Refer patients for follow-up treatment


• Prescribe pit and fissure sealants as needed


• Identify and evaluate any lesion, anomaly or deviation from the normal


• Review radiographs and make a subsequent diagnosis based on the review


• Review health histories of the patients and make referrals to a physician as necessary


• Evaluate students as they provide patient care- through each process and end result


• Provide consulting services to patients to suggest and review treatment plans

• Minimum 5 years experience as a dentist


• Must have appropriate state license


• Prefer prior experience in the Education industry
