The Role

Reporting to the Process Superintendent and residing in the Operations department. The individual joining the team will be responsible for supporting all Superintendents - Training Superintendent, Operations Superintendent, Logistics Superintendent, and Process Superintendent, as well as fill-in for the Superintendents when they are away from the Refinery. As part of your specific responsibilities, in the following areas, you will:


  • Understand day-to-day operation of process units.

  • Understand the safety and environmental issues that impact the refinery and refinery personnel.

  • Gather, analyze and act upon pertinent refinery operational data including unit performance, energy consumption, DCS alarms, and yields.

  • Understand product quality issues and how to respond if not being met.

  • Support Operations' troubleshooting efforts to resolve operational and equipment issues.

  • Keep and evaluate operating histories of units.

  • Fill in for Shift Supervisor on occasion.

  • Support Operations' Training efforts as directed by Training Superintendent.

  • Support PSM activities including PHA's, MOC's, PSSR's and P&ID reviews.

  • Interface with Engineering, Maintenance, and Planning in support of refinery operations.

  • Attend Operation's Morning Meeting and communicate operational issues that could impact production targets.

  • Support unit shutdowns, turnarounds, and start-ups through preparation and execution.

  • Understand Logistics issues and support equipment or process issues in the Logistics area at the direction of the Logistics Superintendent.

  • Support studies on the effects of operating variables on rates, yields, and profitability.

  • Make recommendations for improving yields, optimizing unit production rates, and equipment reliability.

  • Support and/or initiate projects to improve yields, operability, production, profitability, and equipment reliability.

  • Provide process engineering services during engineering, construction, and startup of projects as directed by Process Superintendent.

  • Work with vendors to understand new advancements in relevant technology.

The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a good fit for the Operations Enginer opportunity, you will have:


  • BS in Chemical Engineering or related field required

  • Eight years of process engineering experience in refining or petrochemical industry preferred.

  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office suite.

  • Proficiency in communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
