Job Description



    The primary focus of the SSHO is to provide the managerial and leadership skills necessary to accomplish the work by means of subcontractors, self-performance of work and to deliver the project on time, within budget to the highest standards possible with no accidents or injuries. Responsible for the safety aspects of the work and is accountable for: Maintaining a work environment that is safe and continuously kept clean and orderly. Moreover, responsible for establishing a professional work environment that includes: fostering a positive atmosphere, promoting proactive and effective communication, facilitating problem solving and for minimizing and resolving conflict in a constructive manner.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



    • Creating and maintaining a culture that values safety and maintains a healthy environment.

    • Managing the safety and health programs to ensure compliance with established policies, state/federal laws and OSHA regulations and act as the primary contact for all health and safety and/or regulatory agency requests and inquiries.

    • Identifying, managing, directing, and auditing the systems required to limit risk factors leading to safety, health, and/or environmental incidents, compliance violations, or property damage.

    • Responsible for representing the company during any third-party site visits, whether for consultation or enforcement actions.

    • Administering client specific safety programs, environmental stewardship, security compliance, etc.

    • Conducting and/or participating in regularly held meetings involving Silver Mountain Construction's internal staff and external stake holders such as pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, and safety meetings.

    • Maintaining daily safety paperwork such as tailgate safety briefs, field reports, safety audits, etc.

    • Responsible for any follow-up documentation and correspondence with all government safety officials.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications



    Education and Experience:



    • Bachelor of Science degree in Safety & Health or related field preferred; experience for education may be substituted.

    • Meets NAVFAC requirements for a Level 1 SSHO:


      • o Meets the requirements of EM 385-1-1 Section 01.A.17 and all associated sub-paragraphs.

      • o Five (5) years construction industry safety experience.

      • o Current safety credentials to include OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR required.

      • o Has completed an average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past five years.

      • o Has completed the 40-hour Construction Hazard Awareness Course, based on the content and principles of EM 385-1-1, and covering the NAVFAC P-307 Management of Weight Handling Equipment Manual

      • o Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) Certification.

      • Must have strong computer skills. Proficiency with MS Excel spreadsheets, email and other software used in the construction industry desired.

      • A valid drivers' license issued by state of residence and in good standing.

      • Will be required to pass facility security clearance investigation on DoD Projects.

      QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:



      • Meet additional NAVFAC requirements for a Level 2 SSHO:


        • o 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past five years, includes competent person training at excavation; scaffolding; fall protection; hazardous energy; confined space; health hazard recognition; evaluation and control of chemical, physical, an biological agents; and PPE, including selection and maintenance.

        • Certification as a Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST).


        SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


        Applicants are required to have REAL ID ACT compliant documentation at time of hire and nothing on record that would prohibit you from gaining access to military installations


        PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



        • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

        • Ability to walk, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.

        • Ability to perform repetitive movements of the fingers, hands, wrists and arms.

        • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


        WORKING ENVIRONMENT:



        • The position will require work to be performed indoors and outdoors. The employee will be exposed to various weather conditions. Other hazards include, but are not limited to working near heavy equipment, noise hazards, chemicals, cleaning products, asbestos, lead based paint, contaminated soils and road traffic.

        • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to normal office conditions as well as potentially hazardous conditions while on project sites.

        • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
