Lab Technician - Purina Animal Nutrition

Do you enjoy working in a lab? Are you driven by career progression? If so, the Lab Technician role in our manufacturing plant may be a great fit for you! As a Lab Tech, you will assist the Quality Supervisor by focusing on and maintaining Quality standards.

The Quality Lab Technician is responsible for testing materials or products using laboratorysupplies. Follows generally prescribed procedures. Uses proper laboratory techniques. Maintains equipment. Keeps records of tests associated with batches or units. Notifies appropriate production and management staff when failure conditions are observed. Performs general laboratory cleaning duties including washing equipment, sweeping, mopping, wiping down counters, and other cleaning duties as assigned.

Hours:
• 8am - 6pm Monday - Thursday. Must be flexible with any schedule changes. Potential OT.

Experience-Education (Required):
• High School or equivalent education (GED)
• Work experience in a laboratory or manufacturing setting

Experience-Education (Preferred):
• 2 or 4 year College degree in Agriculture, the Sciences, or related fields

Competencies-Skills (Required):
• Self-reliant and able to accurately work under limited supervision
• Able to complete assigned tasks on time & accurately
• Able to think analytically in interpreting test results for accuracy, reasonableness & compliance with specifications, etc.
• Ability to perform simple problem-solving tasks and troubleshooting
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to work well in a team environment
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment
• Ability to follow lab and company safety, quality and behavioral policies including ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to communicate Quality and Safety Standards
• Ability to follow SOPs, written instructions, and procedures precisely
• Knowledge & use of Microsoft Office (Excel is a plus)
• Performing duties while wearing personal protective equipment
• Ability to learn to operate all laboratory testing equipment.
• Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and walk-through plant to obtain samples.
• Ability to conduct frequent movements including walking, standing, bending/stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms, lifting, climbing and other active movements
• Other tasks as needed. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.
• Ability to be flexible in work performed and schedule
• Working across temperature zones that may include cold and/or hot environments for extended periods and may include work in environments where dust is present

Competencies-Skills (Preferred):
• Experience performing laboratory testing
• Previous experience with food safety and compliance standards
• Previous experience with regulatory audits
• Comfortable with public speaking and conducting trainings

• Maintenance/Calibration of lab testing equipment
• Feed mill/Food/Industrial lab experience is a plus
