U.S. Silica is a global performance materials company and a leading producer of commercial silica used in a wide range of industrial applications and in the oil and gas industry. U.S. Silica’s wholly owned subsidiaries include EP Minerals and SandBox Logistics®. EP Minerals is an industry leader in the production of products derived from diatomaceous earth, perlite, engineered clays, and non-activated clays. SandBox Logistics® is a state-of-the-art leader in proppant storage, handling and well-site delivery, dedicated to making proppant logistics cleaner, safer and more efficient. During our 121-year history, we have developed core competencies in mining, processing, logistics and materials science that enable us to produce and cost-effectively deliver over 400 diversified product types to customers across our end markets. As of December 31, 2020, we operated 23 production facilities across the United States. We control 489 million tons of reserves of commercial silica, which can be processed to make 197 million tons of finished products that meet American Petroleum Institute ("API") frac sand specifications, and 79 million tons of reserves of diatomaceous earth, perlite, and clays.


The Company is headquartered in Katy, Texas, and has an office located in Reno, Nevada.


The Director of Engineering is responsible for the direction and administration of the engineering and process control functions throughout U.S. Silica. This role will provide the technical guidance and leadership skills needed to establish and maintain a world class Engineering organization with a commitment to ethics and integrity while challenging traditional ways of doing business. The Director of Engineering will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.


Essential Job Functions:



  • Direct and administer the design of major projects through the engineering group, with focus on fit for purpose design and effective construction project management.

  • Monitor and track capital project status, schedule, budget, and costs for Engineering managed projects.

  • Direct and administer the process engineering activities.

  • Create annual budgeting for capital projects and present for leadership approval.

  • Provide engineering expertise on special task forces, including acquisition studies, as requested.

  • Participate in approval process by carefully reviewing project estimates and preliminary design engineering.

  • Provide periodic reports of departmental activity and schedules to allow management to assess major project costs and schedules.

  • Provide process control audits of operational facilities in accordance with Corporate policies.

  • Continually evaluate departmental systems with continuous improvement as the objective.

  • Provide training and motivation to department members and encourage a professional approach to Engineering. Identify and develop talent for succession planning purposes.

  • Ensure that high standards of engineering design, materials, and construction are maintained in all U.S. Silica work both by the Engineering Department and by Plants in their projects. Ensure that U.S. Silica Engineering Standards are consistently and uniformly used.

  • Interchange technical processes and procedures with U.S. Silica’s subsidiary technical groups to foster use of best practices throughout U.S. Silica.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills: 



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

  • 15 Years Engineering and Engineering Management experience in positions of increasing responsibility Or, 10+ years of related experience with MBA.

  • Leadership skills.

  • Major project management and construction management experience including planning and budgeting.

  • Process control auditing.

  • Continuous Improvement.

  • Developing and managing engineering policy and procedures.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills: 



  • MBA

  • Professional Engineering Registration highly desirable.

Travel Requirements:



  • Twice a month or more.
