Overview: The primary role of this position is to establish and develop a professional materials management supply chain organization and supply base that meets the needs of the business required to achieve company objectives. This position is responsible for a team of buyers and inventory specialists and will direct and coordinate all aspects of the supply chain management function in a lower volume, highly technical, project driven production environment. Responsibilities include the procurement, inventory, and distribution of raw materials, sub-assemblies, capital equipment, services and supplies used by the organization. Manager will be expected to secure products and services at the highest quality and lowest cost and delivered when required by the company. This position is responsible and accountable for achieving financial objectives related to cost management, inventory performance, and supplier performance; each contributing to the overall profitability of the company. The Manager, Supply Chain reports directly to the VP, Operations and works closely with internal customers, operations, program management, business offices, finance and engineering. The Manager, Supply Chain will be responsible for engaging with each of these departments and involved in the product realization effort from design to installation. The manager will also be responsible to deploy and ensure alignment with corporate/divisional goals and strategies associated with purchased materials and services. Significant product and system manufacturing experience in engineered to order environments is required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following and other duties as assigned. • Continually ensure department priorities are aligned with company objectives. Create and develop a supply chain organization and supply base that is capable of supporting such objectives. • Understand factors affecting supply specifically those related to product availability, cost, risk, and technology shifts that could be favorable/unfavorable to the company. • Develop a "Best in Class" supply base including restructuring relationships into value-added alliances. Lead/support initiatives related to resourcing, supplier development, negotiations, and utilizing LCR suppliers and company's GSO resources. • Establish weekly MRP analysis process to ensure procurement team effective execution of MRP output. Develop and drive procurement policy including purchasing methodology, inventory stocking policy, part classification, and item attribute maintenance. • Coordinate with the Planning function to establish production schedules and to report on material supply against demand. • Directs and formulates procedures and policies to make certain materials are available or delivered when needed. • Monitors material and supply inventories through MRP systems and physical methods. • Interacts with Quality on matters of vendor delivered quality and vendor rating systems. • Conducts meetings with the business office to ensure shipments and revenue targets are met. • Supervises advanced purchasing supporting the Engineering Team in their search for proper and state-of-the-art material. • Recognizes and solves problems affecting production including schedules, staff, quality, material availability and production line sequence. • Establishes and maintains purchasing systems and procedures to ensure honest, fair, legally correct, and ethical relationships with all suppliers. Ensure compliance to all regulatory requirements are maintained. • Maximize information systems and technologies in management of purchased materials and suppliers. Supervisor Responsibilities • Departmental - Establish departmental goals and objectives. Lead activities to achieve KPI's and report progress as required. Act as primary liaison between department/suppliers and company management. Develop culture of continuous improvement including process improvements that create value. Support company policies, procedures, and codes. Interview, hire and train new employees. Manage and motivate a supply chain team of buyers and inventory specialists. • Procurement - Ensure availability of materials to support the production schedule. Provide materials that meet all technical specifications at minimum cost. Continuously improve supplier performance. • Scheduling / planning - Schedule material flow and purchase orders to support promised shipping dates. Manage material and purchase order problems and provide timely feedback to department heads. • Inventory Management - Maintain secure storage area. Maintain and improve procedures for cycle counting, lot control, receipts, and issues. Keep parts on hand at minimum level to meet production requirements. This position may require occasional domestic and international travel, approximately 10%.
