Position Overview

Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task. Responsible for the safe, timely loading and unloading of quarry material to ensure plant operations are optimized.  To assure all material flows are continuous and uninterrupted.  Perform work area and pre-shift equipment inspections and report any unsafe working conditions.

Key Responsibilities


  • Properly follow all company policies and MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.

  • Workplace and pre-shift equipment inspections and housekeeping.

  • Completing all required departmental data logs and reports.

  • To monitor heavy loading equipment lube levels, operating conditions and report any perceived problems. Specifically, greasing machines, cleaning excess rock from equipment, and handling pre-shift and post-shift inspections.

  • To report any housekeeping or material spill problems in the Quarry and/or plant and take necessary actions to prevent and rectify any potential problems.

  • To ensure the safe operation of equipment and safe work practices.

  • Operates equipment at highest production levels within permitting limits.

  • Must be able to physically shovel material from equipment, around the crusher and other areas in the Quarry as instructed.

  • To monitor and maintain all material flows to ensure the quality of the products within specifications.

  • To work closely with the Control Room Operator and Quality Control Department to ensure material specifications are accurate and complete.

  • To ensure environmental compliance and report any visual emissions.

  • To assist Production Department by directing, coaching, supporting and delegating as the situation requires.

  • To assist in the training of new employees in the skills and procedures required to perform a task.

  • To serve as a role model in the areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, safety and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company’s goals and objectives.

  • To assist the Quarry Supervisor and/or Quarry Manager as required or directed.

Education


  • High School Graduate, GED, or Trade School

Qualifications


  • 1- 2 years related experience in operating heavy equipment required. Mining experience preferred. Certified heavy equipment operator, preferred.

Requirements


  • Commitment to the highest standards of safe work habits

  • Must be able to show and take initiative based on sound problem solving skills

  • Report to work at the designated start time

  • Able to operate mobile equipment including Bobcat, Condor, and Forklift

  • Able to climb stairs and ladders, work on catwalks or other unusual work areas

  • Good communication skills for use with co-workers, contractors, completing reports, etc.

  • Must be willing to work overtime and shift work.

  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to complete quality work in a timely fashion, without rework.

  • Able to perform heavy lifting/physically demanding work for prolonged periods of time in extremes of climate/temperature.
