Job Description:




Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)




Salary: $55,000




The Center for Learning and Teaching at Binghamton University invites applicants for a one-year, full-time, potentially renewable position as Assistant Director of the Binghamton Codes! Program. The mission of the program is to broaden the skill sets for humanities and social science undergraduate students in the areas of coding, programming, and related skills to build their computational confidence. The Assistant Director will be the lead instructor of the introductory Python course in the two-course sequence, Coding in Action I, and assist the Director with outreach, course development, and scaling of the program to large enrollments. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative teacher with a commitment to high-quality, student-centered undergraduate education. The opening is immediate and the successful applicant will begin teaching this upcoming semester, Spring 2022.




Responsibilities:





  • Assist with outreach and communications to stakeholders and future students

  • Work with Director to develop potential new courses and course material for the program

  • Help develop pilot tracks for the second course to be multiple course offerings

  • Assist with recruitment of students to program

  • Identify new avenues for promoting the courses

  • Assist with website development to promote micro-credential

  • Communicate with academic advising offices

  • Teach the HARP 150-Coding in Action I course and supervise course assistants






Requirements:




Required Qualifications:





  • Master's degree

  • Experience teaching Python programming to broad audiences

  • Commitment to promoting diversity and anti-racism and working to advance a culture that strives to eliminate or mitigate the effects of systemic racism and bias

  • Comfort with self-learning new methods, software, and applications

  • Strong oral, written, and presentation skills

  • A proven record of a dynamic, innovative teacher with a commitment to high-quality, student-centered undergraduate education




Preferred Qualifications:





  • Experience with front-end web development

  • Experience using social media platforms
