Job Description:

To provide high quality ultrasounds for interpretation and diagnosis by a Maternal Fetal medicine physician. To act as a preceptor in performing high quality pediatric echocardiograms for students, novice sonographers and fellows.

Perform maternal fetal medicine ultrasound on patients

A. Operate all equipment to perform diagnostic ultrasound. Use correct parameters based on patient age and diagnosis. This includes 2D, Doppler and color Doppler,

B. Efficiently and effectively perform pre-work by searching for relevant information related to prior ultrasound exam.

C. Communicate efficiently and effectively with ordering and/or interpreting physician - prior to studies and as needed to define study goals.

D. Measure all M-mode, 2D, Doppler, and color Doppler flow patterns. Calculate measurements, formulas, and ratios. Enter calculations and measurements into patient report in PACS and AS software reporting system.

E. Analyze images and correctly annotate in PACS system.

F. Act as a preceptor and resource for students, novice sonographers and fellows in clinical situations.

G. Participate in research studies as requested.

H. Must demonstrate consistent proficiency in competencies for this position.

I. Consistently arrives on shift prior to shift begin time ready and able to work.

J. Demonstrates professional conduct at all times in behavior and appearance.

K. Participates in Fetal Echocardiography examinations.

Provide care with consideration of patient's age, diagnosis, psycho-social

characteristics and family stressors that affect ability to understand or retain instructions. Maintain service

excellence in all aspects of echo lab operations.

A. Demonstrates strong communication skills and patient service skills always introducing self to the patient and family and effectively relaying ultrasound procedure and routine of the clinic.

B. Provide education as appropriate regarding the echo imaging carefully excluding any comment regarding diagnosis and management

Participate in performance improvement activities designed to improve patient

care and/or organizational processes

A. Actively utilize performance improvement processes and promote collaboration in the process.

B. Identify problems and communicates these to appropriate resources and seek opportunities to participate in implementing solutions.

C. Work to improve patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction by promoting Service Excellence.

Job Requirements


  • Completion of Certified Ultrasound program beyond high school required.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years experience required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) required.
  • Certification in Nuchal Translucency required.
  • Strong MFM/OB/GYN experience with High-Risk Pregnancy knowledge.
  • Fetal Echocardiography preferred.
  • AHA BLS Certification required.
  • Hospital electronic medical record, PACS system experience.
