Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Radiations Measurement group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a technical career as a Radiation Measurement Laboratory Scientist!

Responsibilities Include:


  • Performs laboratory related tasks as directed by technical leads, principal investigators, and the department manager in accordance with appropriate work control documentation as relevant to the activities of the Radiation Measurements Laboratory.

  • Performs various radiation measurements including wire scanning, high resolution gamma spectroscopy and gas-proportional counting.

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs nuclear measurement instruments.

  • Involves the application of nuclear engineering principles and methods to design, develop, and test nuclear equipment and systems

  • Makes studies related to the detection and control of radiation and radioactive contaminants; studies nuclear fuel cycle to define most economical uses of material and safest means of waste products disposal.

  • Prepares releasable drawings, derives or completes calculations, and identifies resolutions for problems of design, construction, maintenance and D&D associated with nuclear processes, including contaminated waste streams, material activation, and shielding.

  • Evaluates radiological hazards and risk mitigation approaches.

  • Includes routine laboratory and instrument maintenance, ordering and maintaining supplies, sample management and maintaining documentation, as appropriate.

  • Has frequent contact with laboratory "customers" and support personnel to plan, execute and report on work performed in the laboratory, as appropriate

  • Training, safety meetings, group meetings, and general participation in other compliance related activities

  • Performs routine in nature or specialized and are performed under general supervision.

  • Assists with reporting results in internal memos, external memos, publications, and other reporting processes.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor's of Science Degree and 0 yrs experience in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or other related areas.
