The Gerth Archives and Special Collections at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized, applicants for a pool of full-time temporary digital collections archivist appointments.

Gerth Archives & Special Collections Department
The Gerth Archives and Special Collections Department, located within the University Library, houses the California State University System-wide Archives, the CSUDH Archives, over 250 archival collections on the founding of the University, African American history, Japanese American history, labor movements, aviation history, Upton Sinclair, Tradeswomen, Latin American history, California history, and other topics. The Department's digital archives contain over 50,000 digital objects and is growing. The Gerth Archives has received NEH, NHPRC, CCLPEP, and NPS grants for its current CSU system-wide Japanese American Digitization Project. The University Library houses two art/history galleries. Rotating exhibits, such as the Watts: Now & Then; Building Evidence: Japanese Americans in Southern California; LatinX Activism, and LGBTQ+ are generated to complement formal instruction.
Mission
The University Library fosters student success, scholarly research, and academic excellence through the provision of information resources, user-centered services, and learning experiences. The Gerth Archives collects, maintains, preserves, and makes accessible primary resources, archival materials, rare books, and digital objects to enhance research about CSUDH and the South Bay area of Los Angeles as well as Africana Studies, Chicano/Chicana Studies, Labor Studies, and the history of education in California.

The Position
The library faculty and professional staff in the University Library's Gerth Archives & Special Collections Department at California State University Dominguez Hills invite applications for a full-time temporary Digital Collections Archivist position. The position is a two-year term appointment with the possibility of extensions. The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed based on funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin in a position on short notice.
Responsibilities
As a library faculty member in the Gerth Archives & Special Collections Department, the incumbent will work in a highly collaborative manner with other CSUDH Gerth Archives and Library personnel to support digital projects through their entire cycle, including the preparation of digital materials (photographs, text, etc.), the creation of metadata using CONTENTdm, and generation of outreach materials such as finding aids, libguides, digital exhibitions, and other outreach activities. The Digital Collections Archivist will work to enhance the CSUDH community's access to digital collections by actively working with Archives faculty and staff on events and publicity/social media activities to promote their access and use.

Employment Requirement - Background Check
