Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Family Nurse Practitioner to join us in pursuit of high quality emergent patient care. The urgent care Nurse Practitioner plays a key role and is responsible for clinical care of adult and pediatric patients.

The Ideal Candidate


  • Three to five years clinical experience in an urgent care, emergency department setting or equivalent.
  • Ability to treat adult and pediatric urgent medical conditions.
  • Ability to treat adult and pediatric minor traumatic injuries.
  • Demonstrate competency in triage, diagnosis, and treatment to assure high standards of patient care and safety are maintained.
  • Patient centered approach toward a positive patient experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Interest in Population Health Management.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical care at the urgent care center treating both adult and pediatric patients.
  • Obtain and document patient history as appropriate to chief complaint or reason for visit.
  • Conduct relevant physical exam and evaluate patient, documenting pertinent positive and negative findings.
  • Diagnose and treat disease, managing both acute and chronic illnesses.
  • Prescribe medication in accordance with New York State and federal law, with no expectation to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Perform complete physical examinations of each patient including, but not limited to, examination of the head, eyes, ears, nose, throat, abdomen; and all systems of the body including but not limited to, the circulatory, reproductive and nervous system.
  • Collaborates with the urgent care center’s Medical Director, Nurses, Care Team Associates and ancillary support staff.
  • Provide relationship-centered care, considering the patient’s psychosocial and physical needs.
  • Participate in medical staff educational programs and meetings as may be required.
  • Ensure development and implementation of appropriate clinical protocols.
  • Participate in quality management activities.
  • Attend medical staff meetings.
  • Other committee participation as necessary.

Experience


  • Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner education program registered by the New York State Education Department
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from a New York State approved accrediting body - American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), or be eligible for board certification.
  • 3 years minimum experience in Walk-in/Urgent Care, Critical Access Hospital and Emergency Medicine
  • Ability to practice independently and provide care without physician supervision
  • Comfort and recent experience treating both adult and pediatric patients
  • Recent experience providing basic gynecological care (e.g. women’s exams, Pap smears)
  • Must possess current, unrestricted New York State license or be eligible for licensure
  • Must possess active Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration or be eligible for registration
  • Must possess active Medicare/Medicaid Enrollment or be eligible to enroll
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required but both strongly preferred
  • Ability to suture and splint a plus
  • Comfortable with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and Microsoft Office

Shift Schedule:


  • 3-4 10/12 hour shifts per week
  • 8am-8pm Mon- Friday
  • Rotating weekends include Saturday and Sunday 8 am -4pm
  • Holidays are rotated and open for all national and religious holidays
