We are looking for a Purchasing Agent I to join Kaiser Aluminum Warrick Operations in Newburgh, Indiana!

The Purchasing Agent I is responsible to ensure the use of standard purchasing practices for activities involved with the procurement of goods and services including quality process compliance for items such as maintenance parts, supplies, equipment, tools, services, and inventory management.  Work shall be performed in compliance with all policies and procedures, with an emphasis on accuracy and expeditiously to meet departmental and plant needs and timelines.

What you will work on:


  • Review inventory replenishment requests to ensure appropriate levels based upon usage, criticality and lead-times.

  • Create and expedite purchase orders (PO’s) per company policy for storeroom inventory, materials and services.

  • Manage storeroom replenishment and maintain inventory accuracy, min/max optimization, identifying root cause issues and implementing corrective actions.

  • Adhere to inventory procedures throughout the product life cycle, set up to obsolescence.

  • Develop and source suppliers to meet cost, quality and performance objectives.

  • Manage new material additions, modifications and ensure appropriate attributes are defined

  • Support new supplier additions and modifications

  • Monitor, document and manage supplier performance both formally and informally to ensure highest levels of service and supply.

  • Liaison between suppliers and internal plant personnel to obtain product specifications and/or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.

  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing Tools and other Continuous Improvement techniques to improve administrative, distribution, and cost efficiency.

  • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with plant personnel, users, suppliers, and others to determine source of trouble and facilitate corrective action.

  • Negotiate problem resolution and/or terms of purchase with suppliers, such as PO Terms, pricing, payment terms, termination options, and delivery requirements.

  • Understand and adhere to company financial controls associated with inventory management.

  • Support all aspects of purchasing, warehousing and distribution associated with MRO inventoried items while considering cost effective solutions.

About you:                


  • Entry level purchasing with 1-5 years of experience.

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Knowledge of Purchasing system software and Inventory Management systems (previous experience with ERP software, Maximo Maintenance management software and/or Oracle Business Intelligence helpful).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to work in teams.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Background in contract knowledge encompassing all aspects of legal execution of contracts between buyer and sellers

  • Strong PC skills, including Windows, Word, and Excel.

  • Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: CPSM, CSCP, CPSD, CPM, and/or APP certifications are helpful.
