Team Leads are responsible for the technical management of design and engineering teams and are capable of performing difficult and technically challenging work. Incumbents for most team lead positions oversee the design or engineering function of an area within the Power Delivery group, and must have a significant background in utility design or engineering. The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience managing staff. Incumbents across the Power Delivery group also actively participate in obtaining work.

Responsibilities

    Lead the daily activity of design and engineering teams, works closely with appropriate Group Manager
  • Work with Project Managers to assure design projects are appropriately tracked and reported

  • Perform constructability reviews and construction support


  • Act as final QA/QC check within design team

  • Use computer-aided drafting tools, such as AutoCAD & Civil 3D, Revit, CADWorx, MicroStation, AutoCAD Inventor, Bentley Substation, and Solidworks, as well as technical handbooks, utility standards, tables, and calculators as needed to design projects and review others' work

  • Maintain client relationships and actively participate in proposal process to win work, including reviewing costs and time schedules developed by others


  • Manage the applicable drafting, design, or engineering resources across the group's project load


  • Fulfill assignments that require independent judgment and evaluation


  • Work independently with minimal or no supervision


  • Prepare technical papers for submittal to regional/national publications


  • May serve as Project Manager for specific technical projects

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate's degree in Engineering or relevant field, or equivalent experience and training

Required Skills and Experience


  • At least 8 years of experience with computer-assisted design programs such as AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, and AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Positive attitude, able to collaboratively work with others

  • Expert understanding of applicable electrical, mechanical, and structural systems

  • Working knowledge of multiple engineering design areas, including electrical, mechanical, and civil

  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of applicable industry design and construction codes and standards

  • Working knowledge of electric/gas utility safe work practices

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite and expert skills with technical software

  • Experience managing staff and teams

Desired Skills and Experience


  • Some knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project, and PLS-CADD

  • At least 8 years of experience, including direct design and drafting work, in the power-delivery field

  • Participates in technical and professional societies

  • PMP certification

  • Evaluation is based, in part on the timely, accurate completion of work


  • Attends in-house seminars and educational opportunities outside of the offices

Physical Demands:


  • This position requires sitting for extensive periods of time


  • The nature of the tasks demand strong visual acuity


  • May require lifting up to 25 lbs
