The Office of the Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Cornell University is the chief financial and administrative office responsible for directing the financial and administrative services in support of the academic mission.

What you will do:
The Financial Analyst provides analytical support for the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (EVP & CFO), including the development and maintenance of various reporting and management information approaches for the University President, executive staff and the Board of Trustees. The work of this position is highly visible to senior management and the board of trustees.

This position requires defining business function needs, determining the most efficient technological tools, creating the necessary applications, and documenting the financial process. The position is also responsible for preparing analyses and various monthly reports, in addition to gathering data and providing analytical support for other special projects. These require integrating information from a variety of sources (Operating and Capital Budgets, Cost Accounting, Financial Statements, Investments, Plant Accounting, Payroll or others); preparing historical views and determining future projections based on a set of assumptions. This position will maintain the financial reporting model software to provide pro-forma financial statements. The Financial Analyst participates in the design, development and maintenance of appropriate data structures to meet the information requirements of the EVP & CFO and in support of broader institutional administrative efforts.

In addition, the Financial Analyst provides budget support to the EVP & CFO organization. This includes spend analyses, variance monitoring, and forecasting.

What we need:

We need a strategic, data-minded collaborative professional who understands the value of analyzing information to guide business decisions


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of 5 years' experience in accounting or budgeting at a university/corporate level.


  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on most projects and as a team member on some projects are essential. Must be organized and detail-oriented with ability to be flexible and to work effectively in a deadline driven, fast paced environment.


  • High level understanding of data structures and relationships required. Strong experience using query and reporting tools, such as SQL to access databases with ability to access and manipulate data from a variety of computer platforms and databases.


  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office suite or related software. Thorough understanding of FASB, GAAP, and financial statement data and presentation.


If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it's ok if you don't.


  • MBA preferred.


  • Familiarity working with accounting data structures strongly preferred.


Hybrid/Hub Remote

This position's home location is Cornell's campus in Ithaca, New York. The successful applicant will typically be expected to work on-site 3 days a week and will have the option to work remotely 2 days per week.

The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State
