Overview:

We are seeking a Hybrid Manufacturing Postdoc who will focus on conducting research in the field of hybrid manufacturing, or the combination of additive and subtractive manufacturing. This position resides in the Manufacturing Automation & Controls Group in the Manufacturing Science Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

As part of our research team, you will...

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

• Conduct fundamental research in the field of hybrid manufacturing


• Generate computer-aided manufacturing tool paths to support ongoing research


• Assist in the experimental verification of hybrid manufacturing processes through activities including part fabrication and metrology

Basic Qualifications:

• A B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline


• Experience in directed energy deposition technology


• Experience in Subtractive (machining) manufacturing


• Experience with computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software

Preferred Qualifications:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills


• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory


• Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever-changing needs
