Job Description:


Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is looking for a driven and organized Legal Assistant to join our Denver office! The Legal Assistant will provide onsite (in-office) legal and administrative support to timekeepers in the Transactional practice area. Experience with Transactional work is strongly preferred. This position will also provide occasional coverage at our Broomfield office, as needed.

Responsibilities:


  • Receive and review incoming communications

  • Transcribe, type, proofread and finalize legal documents, correspondence, memos, charts, billings and reports from dictation, handwritten or existing documents, as directed by assigned legal staff

  • Open new clients and matters

  • Process of initial conflicts information; inputting info Firm's new business intake system, and preparing engagement letters to clients

  • Communicate with clients as to billing issues and status of matters

  • Create reports using Excel

  • Prepare letters/emails to clients and vendors

  • Enter billable time in billing software; prepare and submit attorney expense reports

  • Arrange travel, meetings, conference calls and video calls

  • Track and file continuing legal education credits for assigned legal staff

  • Manage an active calendar of appointments, meetings, and travel plans on behalf of attorneys

  • Compose and prepare confidential correspondence

  • Maintain and organize both hard-copy and electronic files

  • Respond and resolve questions or concerns from clients and other attorneys in a timely and professional manner

  • Prepare and submit attorney expense reports and reimbursement

  • Provide assistance in civic, charitable, community, and professional activities







Job Requirements:



  • Ability and willingness to work in the Firm's Denver office five (5) days per week (providing occasional coverage at our Broomfield office, as needed)

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required; Certificate or Undergraduate Degree preferred

  • 3+ years' experience in a legal environment; preferably in the transactional practice

  • Strong organizational and process skills, focused attention on detail, and ability to spot inaccuracies and inconsistencies in documents

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills

  • Technology literacy and willingness to learn new practice technologies and software

  • Ability to organize, multi-task, set priorities, manage time efficiently, and exhibit excellent follow-up

  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure

  • Solid understanding of, and demonstrated ability to comply with, confidentiality requirements

  • Professional demeanor and excellent personal and professional judgment

  • Willingness and ability to work proactively in our Team Environment, across various groups and/or locations

  • Exceptional communication skills; in-person, via phone, via email

  • Valid authorization to work in the U.S.

Compensation Range:
This non-exempt position will be paid on an hourly basis ($21.50 to $30.50 per hour, based on relevant experience) and is eligible for overtime compensation at 1.5 the base rate for all weekly hours worked over forty (40) per week.

Benefits Eligibility:
This position is considered full-time and is therefore eligible to participate in employer-sponsored benefits, including: medical, dental, vision, as well as elective/voluntary life, disability, and accident coverage. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in the firm's 401k plan.
