Castle Metals is seeking a Metallurgical Lab Technician in our Hammond, Indiana, location. Shift will be M-Th 4p-2a.

The Metallurgical Lab Technician primary duties will include examining and testing metal samples using scanning electron microscope and/or stereoscope to determine their physical properties.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Essential Primary Responsibilities:


  • Utilize multiple lab equipment to determine strength, hardness, elasticity, toughness, or other properties of metal, and documenting results

  • Insure the quality of product and production standards are maintained

  • Maintain accurate documents, and data input as required

  • Polishing or etching metal specimens and photographing samples

  • Performing chemical analysis on parts

  • Performing audits and tests on products

  • Writing basic reports

  • Notices and reports defects and/or excessive wear and tear of equipment; May perform set-up and preventative maintenance of equipment

  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area

  • Works under immediate supervision

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:


  • Stooping, standing, and manual dexterity

  • Light lifting (occasional 25lbsor less)

  • Heavy lifting (frequent 25lbs+)

  • Assigned safety equipment must be worn at all times (hard hat, safety shoes with metatarsal, safety glasses with side shields, gloves, arm guards)

  • Frequent exposure to mechanical moving parts

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:

RequiredQualifications:


  • Basic measurement competency

  • Basic math competency

  • Basic computer skills - including proficiency of basic operating systems

  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a warehouse environment

  • Strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications:


  • High school diploma, technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • One year of work experience working in a similar lab environment

  • One year of equipment experience using scanning electron microscope and stereoscope

  • PC literacy

  • Certified in assigned equipment (forklift, Raymond side-loader, overhead crane, etc.)
