Job Summary

The Senior Accountant position offers many challenges and opportunities in a fast paced environment for a leading Health Care Organization. Primary responsibilities are leading the monthly financial closing process for multiple products, preparation of quarterly and annual statutory filings and preparation of schedules supporting internal and external reporting.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Lead the monthly financial close process by compiling and summarizing information for particular products from a variety of sources both internal and external to the department.

Review and maintain detailed account analysis of balance sheet accounts and reconcile to the general ledger on a monthly basis.

Own preparation of quarterly statutory filings and annual audited financial statements.

Prepare and process journal entries to the Lawson General Ledger system.

Assist in the maintenance of a strong internal control environment including participation in the Model Audit Rule documentation and testing.

Prepare and gather supporting documentation for annual audit.

Other special projects as required.

Requirements

EDUCATION: (Minimum educations & certifications required)

Bachelors Degree in Accounting plus 5+years of relevant prior general accounting experience. CPA preferred.

EXPERIENCE: (Years of experience)

5+ years in GAAP and/ or Statutory accounting principles is required. Health insurance industry experience is highly desired. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required. Additional experience using Lawson General Ledger software is a plus.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS: (Include interpersonal skills)


  • Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles is required and be ability to apply these principles to transactions occurring on a monthly basis.

  • Strong organizational skills are required as the incumbent will be forced to prioritize workflow to meet monthly deadlines in a fast paced environment.

  • Interpersonal skills are required as the incumbent will interact with various company personnel, at all levels, as well as external auditors.

  • As the incumbent is exposed to confidential financial results, the applicant should have a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
