Position is remote with occasional travel to the New York area when required.

Position Description:

Oversee all aspects of the handling of clients' Workers' Compensation claims in the New York and Northeast geographic region, managed by carriers and third-party administrators (TPAs). Collaborates closely with Risk Management leadership on workers' compensation claims related issues, including overall processes and procedures to ensure an integrated program.

Key Responsibilities:

* Independently oversee assigned workers' compensation case portfolio of minor to complex claims.

* Manage new incidents involving workers covered under the workers' compensation policy, and dispatch nurse case managers as necessary.

* Be a resource for injured employees regarding to the workers' compensation process.

* Report workers' compensation claims timely and accurately to carriers/TPAs, including notification of questionable claims.

* Proactively identify claims with opportunities for early return to work; facilitate light duty return to work program as needed.

* Evaluate and respond to reserve and settlement consultations within given authority. Escalate consultations above authority to leadership.

* Maintain a diary for all open claims and document all specific claim related activities in Risk Management information system.

* Work with carriers/TPAs and defense counsel to develop mitigation strategies that will result in a cost savings to the claim and push claims to a timely resolution. Ensure an aggressive strategy is developed on litigated claims.

* Collaborate with general liability team to develop mitigation strategies and facilitate the most economic global resolution of contractor controlled insurance program (CCIP) claims.

* Attend hearings and mediations on an as needed basis.

* Ensure all avenues for potential recovery are identified and pursued. Manage lien recovery on a case by case basis.

* Monitor the claims handling process by the carriers/TPAs to ensure compliance with best practices and special handling instructions, and provide direction as necessary.

* Participate in claims review.

* Oversee vendors and defense firms holding them accountable for adherence to the standard protocol and agreed to service instructions/litigation management guidelines. Identify when updates to the instructions/guidelines are necessary and provide recommendations to leadership.

* Partner with safety team and onsite medics on initiatives that support worker wellness and post injury care.

* Attend claims, safety and operations meetings to monitor the current and anticipated project risks, and report on claims status for specific projects.

* Participates in CCIP kickoff meetings and jobsite walkthroughs.

* Maintain and foster relationships with the claims handling teams at the carriers/TPAs, and all other business partners.

* Assist with data analysis for departmental and performance reports.

* Interface with HR and payroll department staff for completion of required jurisdictional forms.

* Support audits related to workers' compensation claims.

* Remain current on workers' compensation laws and regulations, industry trends and case law within assigned jurisdictions.

* Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications:

* Bachelor degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration or similar program; minimum of 5 years of workers' compensation claims administration experience in the New York jurisdiction; and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

* Experience with workers' compensation claims in a construction environment is desired

* CRIS, ARM or similar insurance designation is desired

* Knowledge of jurisdictional laws and regulations

* Knowledge of NY Labor Law and OSHA 30-hour certification are a plus

* Excellent organizational and presentation skills

* Analytical and adept at processing and breaking down data into actionable information

* Self-starter with strong project management skills and capable of managing concurrent complex projects and tasks successfully to completion

* Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with ability to work with individuals at all organizational levels, both internal and external

* Display initiative, teamwork, independent thinking and decision making skills

* Ability to understand and apply lean concepts

* Professional written and verbal communication skills

* Proficient in computer skills, Microsoft suite of applications, MS Outlook, and insurance-based risk management information systems

* Occasional travel; with travel to the New York area as needed
